Earlier today, <strong>Rey Mysterio Jr.<\/strong> issued a challenge &#8211; that was subsequently accepted &#8211; to NJPW Legend <strong>Jushin Thunder Liger<\/strong> for a match-up at <em><strong>NJPW Strong Style Evolved<\/strong><\/em>, the sold out NJPW event in Long Beach, California on March 25, 2018. Mysterio appeared via video at today&#8217;s <em><strong>The New Beginning in Osaka<\/strong><\/em>, much like Chris Jericho&#8217;s initial challenge to Kenny Omega.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"REY MYSTERIO COMING!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oVQ2VmcPNv0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This marks only the third encounter between two men generally considered two of the greatest Cruiserweights of the past 30 years. A 9x Cruiserweight Champion (6x WCW, 3x WWE) as well as a 3x WWA World Welterweight Champion and 2x WWA World Lightweight Champion in Mexico prior. Upon arriving in the WWE following the end of WCW, Mysterio Jr broke into the Heavyweight scene, becoming a 3x World Champion as well. Since leaving the WWE, he&#8217;s also captured the <strong>Lucha Underground<\/strong> Championship and is the current reigning <strong>Crash Lucha\u00a0<\/strong>Heavyweight in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gedo, Jushin Thunder Liger, Juventud Guerrera &amp; Lion Do vs. Lance Storm, Rey Misterio Jr., Ultimo Dragon &amp; Yuji Yasuraoka (WAR)\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player.html?video=x2pynnr&#038;\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mysterio and Liger first encountered each other in Japan in July of 1996, but it was in a multi-man tag match for <strong>WAR<\/strong>. Mysterio paired with <strong>Ultimo Dragon, Lance Storm<\/strong> and <strong>Yuji Yasuraoka<\/strong> to face Liger, <strong>Gedo, Juventud Guerrera<\/strong>, and Chris Jericho, with Mysterio&#8217;s team picking up the win.
