No longer will the show be limited to just one night. Like WrestleMania, WWE has moved its second biggest PLE to a two-night extravaganza. A bold move, yes, but one that could pay huge dividends from a marketing standpoint. It’s a show that is thought to be on the same level as WrestleMania, and now WWE will be treating it as such. Moving WWE SummerSlam 2025 to two nights is a huge shift for WWE, and they cannot afford to drop the ball on their first shot.

Credit: WWE

Luckily, they have provided the wrestling world with a fantastic lineup that should give some great moments. There are many reasons to tune into Netflix on Saturday and Sunday, and here are a few of them.

The Start Of A New Era

SummerSlam has a long and storied history within WWE, but this weekend will be a first for the Premium Live Event. It marks the first time that SummerSlam will go to two nights, making it the biggest Party of the Summer in WWE history.

With two nights comes a larger event. An event that will include a massive card littered with amazing matches. SummerSlam has always had a big event feel to it, but this one feels different. There will be a ton of memories created over two nights, with WWE going above and beyond to make each night a fantastic night of wrestling. It will be a long weekend of wrestling, but one that should be at the top of everyone’s list.

Men’s World Championship Matches Will Deliver

John Cena defending against Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, trying to dethrone Gunther, will be fantastic. SummerSlam needs to have huge World Championship matches to sell the show, and WWE has picked the best possible matchups to achieve this.

Cena and Rhodes will be running back their WrestleMania main event. It was a match that had its detractors but was overall entertaining. These are two of the biggest stars in wrestling history, and men who know how to work a crowd. They will no doubt give us everything they have, and the addition of the Street Fight stipulation will provide them with plenty to work with.

On the other side of the World Championship coin, we have a fresh matchup between two men at different points in their careers. Gunther has been crushing it since his main roster call-up, and CM Punk is desperate to validate his return to WWE. This match will be an epic, drama-filled affair that could see Punk finally get his hands on gold.

Women’s World Championship Matches That Could Steal The Show

Tiffy Stratton and Jade Cargill are an intriguing contest. They have done well with the limited build, and they are two stars that haven’t gone to battle. Stratton and Cargill give us a great dynamic, and their opposing styles will make for a fun match. It also needs to be watched for the finish, as no one can really put their finger on who will be walking away with the Women’s WWE Championship.

The Women’s World Championship triple threat needs very little selling, considering the participants. Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky have been putting on bangers since WrestleMania, and now Naomi has been added to the mix. This match has everything going for it and could very well be the best-rated show of SummerSlam.

Gimmick Matches For Everyone

One big thing that was missing from WrestleMania that SummerSlam is looking to rectify is the inclusion of some great gimmick matches. It’s a great way to add some drama to a match and get the fans hyped for an event. WWE is smart to make sure that both nights of SummerSlam include a few gimmick matches.

The 6-Pack TLC match, for the WWE Tag Titles, is going to be a car crash in all the right ways. Who doesn’t love a multi-man ladder match, that will no doubt include some incredible spots? It will be a great palate cleanser for the rest of the night.

We also have a Steel Cage match between Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, which will be brutal. This has been a personal feud that has no other way to end than in extreme violence. There might even be some colour between the two men to take this gimmick to the next level.

These matches will epitomize why gimmick matches should be included in big nights such as SummerSlam.

Perhaps The Most Stacked Undercard In SummerSlam History

Some matches have already been discussed, but it bears mention that this SummerSlam’s undercard could be the best in WWE history.

AJ Styles taking on Dominik Mysterio for the IC Strap has included a great build and will surprise a lot of people. This match will be a fun sprint with two of the best high-flyers in WWE.

The Women’s Tag Team Championship match is the biggest that WWE has ever had. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss are the perfect oddball pairing, and they are achieving the impossible of making Charlotte a babyface. They match up well opposite Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez, and this could go down as the best women’s tag team match since the reintroduction of the championships.

Then we have the finale in the Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria program. One that has been getting better and better as the weeks went on. They have stolen the show wherever they went and will assuredly do the same at SummerSlam.

Two Massive Tag Team Matches

Injuries have derailed the direction Roman Reigns was headed into SummerSlam, but WWE has pivoted to an acceptable match. One that includes a ton of crossover history and features four of the best workers in the company.

Jey Uso, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Roman Reigns have been entangled for a while now, and they have been money every time. This match will be great for the young talent to establish themselves against two of the biggest babyfaces in the company.

We then move to the match that will draw a new portion of the audience to SummerSlam. Jelly Roll is one of the biggest musical talents in the world.

His audience is vast, and they will be tuning in on Sunday, and we should all be as well. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Roll integrates into a heated program. He has a clear understanding of professional wrestling and has worked well so far, but he hasn’t made it into the ring yet.

That will be the big test at SummerSlam, and while McIntyre, Orton, and Paul can help to hide his inexperience, the success of this match will come down to how well Jelly Roll adapts to the ring. That’s worth the price of admission alone.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on the WWE SummerSlam 2025, and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
