In a sprint finish for WWE Speed gold, NXT’s Sol Ruca looked to defend her title against SmackDown representative, Alba Fyre.

WWE Speed Results (7/9/25)

Former NXT UK Women’s Champion Fyre knocked off another NXT starlet in Thea Hail in last week’s semi-final. Fyre silenced the Chase U alum with a Gory Bomb. Ruca, meanwhile, was looking to complete the second defense of her Speed title, having retained the championship against Ivy Nile in May.

Following a major announcement on WWE Raw earlier this week, Ruca headed into the match with Fyre with extra motivation. Ruca and her tag partner Zaria were confirmed as NXT’s entries into the four-way tag match at Evolution for the Women’s tag team titles. Champions Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez will also defend against ‘frenemies’ Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair of SmackDown and Asuka and Kairi Sane, aka the Kabuki Warriors, of Raw.

With Ruca confirmed for the tag title match at Evolution, she has a chance to make history this Sunday. Should Ruca and Zaria win, she would become the first women’s wrestler to hold three WWE championships simultaneously in the company’s history as Sol Ruca is currently the NXT Women’s North American Champion as well as the Speed Champion. The triple title feat has only been achieved once thus far in WWE, when The Miz held the US Championship and both men’s tag team titles simultaneously in 2010.

But before Ruca could entertain the thought of triple champ status, she had to get through a former women’s tag team champion first. And it was Fyre who gained the ascendancy early on, attempting a couple of quick rollup pins in the opening exchanges.

Sol meets Fyre in the WWE Speed gauntlet

Sol Ruca defended her title against Alba Fyre on WWE Speed.
Credit: WWE

The opening 90 seconds were a trial by Fyre, before a quick pin attempt and a Double Knee Facebreaker forced the challenger to retreat slightly. But Fyre wasn’t out on her feet; an attempt at a Sol Snatcher by Ruca was countered easily. The momentum swung again as Fyre showed her versatility.

A Swanton Bomb, one of Fyre’s specialties, was quickly followed by a Sleeper Hold. The Scottish star kept the champion guessing, but Ruca was able to fight through and regain dominance. The match was perfectly poised with 90 seconds left on the clock, as Fyre and Ruca continued to trade blows and counters. Another quick rollup proved futile for Fyre before Ruca struck out of nowhere. Evading Fyre’s Clothesline, Ruca surged toward the ropes, delivering a Springboard Sol Snatcher with less than a minute remaining to retain.

It was another gutsy performance from the 25-year-old NXT talent, who added another main roster superstar to her list of conquests. And with her two title reigns still intact, history remains in Sol Ruca’s hands heading into WWE Evolution.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Speed results and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
