Mone ambushed her, dragging the champion to the entrance ramp. Enraged by last week’s “embarrassment”, she locked Storm in with a Statement Maker. Mina Shirakawa came to Storm’s defense.

Will Ospreay & Swerve Strickland defeated Lee Johnson & Blake Christian

The Young Bucks interrupted the commentator’s attempts to make sense of the situation by bumping Strickland and Ospreay’s match to “right now”.

Strickland overwhelmed Johnson immediately, whereas Christian suffered a double-team effort by his opponents. Ospreay sent Johnson careening after a Flying Crossbody. His momentum was thwarted, however, by the Young Bucks distracting him with their entrance.

Johnson and Christian wore down Ospreay with the latter hoping to capitalize with a 450 Splash. Strickland sent Johnson into Christian via a Buckle Bomb and proceeded to hit the griddy. Johnson collapsed after Strickland wriggled out of his moves and ducked as Ospreay dropped him with a flying Hidden Blade. Ospreay coordinated with Strickland to Christian with a Brainbuster for the win.

Post-match, Ospreay and Strickland charged at the Bucks. They then demanded a match at All In Texas, with their EVP titles on the line.

Nice shot for Johnson and Christian to get some reps in. Strickland & Ospreay versus the Young Bucks immediately has appeal for me with all the shenanigans the brothers have been up to.

Young Bucks and Don Callis Family segment

Matthew and Nicholas Jackson announced that Strickland would be suspended for a week with no pay for putting his hands on them during the post-match scuffle. Kazuchika Okada met them, flanked by Konosuke Takeshita, Rocky Romero, and Trent Beretta. The two groups agreed to work together.

Kota Ibushi defeated Trent Beretta (with Rocky Romero)

Evenly matched, Ibushi anticipated Beretta with each man sidestepping the other. Through handy matwork, he trapped Beretta with a crucifix pin. Romero distracted Ibushi long enough for Beretta to charge at him. Dazed on the bottom rope, Ibushi’s neck snapped onto the apron after Beretta dropkicked him onto it. Beretta blasted Ibushi with a Shining Wizard + Gotch Style Piledriver combination. Ibushi intercepted a lariat with a Snapdragon Suplex, returning the match in his favor.

At the last moment, Ibushi kicked out of a surprise crucifix pin. Wrist control engaged, Beretta used his forearm to lariat Ibushi to the arm again and again. A double foot stomp earned Ibushi another comeback. With one Kamigoye, Ibushi finally ended this match.

Post-match, Kazuchika Okada came out for a staredown with Ibushi. They didn’t share a word as Okada left. Excalibur on commentary announced that Ibushi and Okada would face off on AEW Dynamite 300, a rematch three years in the making.

Ibushi seems in far better space, and meshed well with Beretta, despite my anxieties over both men’s health.

Jon Moxley promo

The AEW Men’s World Champion insulted “Hangman” Adam Page’s emotional front heading into All In Texas. He professed that Page isn’t the guy fans think he is, and that he should face him with the same viciousness in their upcoming match. Moxley concluded that Page will fall by his hand and that he “should start looking for another job.”

Ricochet and AR Fox segment

Fox was being interviewed by Renee Paquette when Ricochet approached him, gauging his interest in partnering. Fox obliged.

JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & “Speedball” Mike Bailey) defeated Ricochet & AR Fox

Knight and Bailey sent Fox out of the ring before cornering Ricochet. Returning to the ring, Fox stomped Knight and dove Bailey onto the floor. JetSpeed both gained their momentum back, toppling Fox and Ricochet with flying crossbodies. Ricochet took Fox’s chance to overcome the opposing team, leading to visible frustration. A flurrying series of kicks saw Bailey land a Standing Shooting Star Press to Fox. Bailey launched Knight into a lariat on Fox. Just when Bailey was set to soar from the top rope, Fox caught him and sent him rattling onto the mat with a Lo Mein Pain.

Suddenly, Ricochet abandoned Fox while Knight chipped away at him. With a UFO Splash, Knight pinned a downtrodden and betrayed Fox.

Post-match, Knight and Bailey called out the Hurt Syndicate for their AEW World Tag Team Championships at All In. Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin gave them a beatdown as a response.

I’m not sure what this is leading to, but I wasn’t a fan. There was a weird clunkiness by two teams comprised of elite-level talent. Maybe it’s just me. However, the power of the Hurt Syndicate and the agility of JetSpeed make that match all the more appealing.

The Hurt Syndicate in-ring promo

MVP begged any tag team to stand up to the Hurt Syndicate. He joked that if JetSpeed were in good health by the time of All In, they’d have a match. MJF took the mic next, boasting over his victory last week over Mistico. He then announced himself for a qualifier match for the Casino Gauntlet match at All In.

Calling for his music, MJF was surprised by Mark Briscoe’s theme instead. The Sussex County Chicken rushed the team, stating that production needed them to hurry up. MJF berated Briscoe for his win-loss record and perceived lack of aesthetics. Briscoe retorted with an inappropriate remark about MJF, regarding a “kosher pickle”. I’ll leave that up to your imagination.

Mark Briscoe defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Roderick Strong, and Bandido

Briscoe and Strong locked up, while Bandido endured Takeshita in the corner. Strong’s power crippled Briscoe, dropping his back on the barricade. Following a frenzy that riled up the Seattle crowd, Strong and Bandido crumpled after they simultaneously clotheslined each other. Takeshita sent Bandido flying from the top rope with a push, but met the same fate at the hands of Briscoe. Bandido and Briscoe capitalized with splashes on Takeshita and Strong after the former landed a Superplex onto the latter. Takeshita suplexed them both at the same time to a loud response. Takeshita landed Strong with a Blue Thunderbomb. Bandido used his trajectory to suplex Takeshita, but couldn’t bridge it enough to secure a pin. Strong toppled Bandido with an End of Heartache, to which Briscoe took advantage with a Froggy Bow for a pinfall on Strong.

This 4-way match was a joy to watch. I fully expected Takeshita or Bandido to take the win, but Briscoe gaining the #1 position advantage in the Casino Gauntlet leaves me wondering how the match will go down.

Adam Cole calls out Don Callis Family

Cole put his TNT Championship on the line for the June 28 episode of AEW Collision in an open challenge to any member of the Don Callis Family.

Josh Alexander would take Adam Cole up on this offer, as detailed by Excalibur on commentary on the next match.

Kris Statlander defeated Athena (with Billie Starkz), Thunder Rosa, and Willow Nightingale

Rosa and Statlander went back and forth, but Nightingale sent Statlander to the outside. Athena blasted each woman with her vicious and quick strikes. A mega Superplex by Nightingale sent all three of her competitors crashing down on the turnbuckle. Nightingale and Statlander cleared the battlefield, setting up for their emotional clash. Athena broke up the proceedings, though she eventually landed on the mat after a double vertical suplex.

A frenzy of moves and interferences transpired, with Rosa reigning dominion over it until Athena pulled her from the ring. Ordering Starkz to grab her ROH Women’s Championship, Athena and Rosa fell off the steel steps. Just as Nightingale nearly had Statlander dead to rights, Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta from the Death Riders distracted Nightingale. Though Nightingale dispatched Yuta, Statlander benefited with a spike to her former friend for the win.

Shafir smirked as Statlander appeared to process what she had just done.

Even better than the previous 4-way, each woman showed that they could stand on their own as unique players without the megastars of Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm.

Christian Cage and Nick Wayne video package

A simple vignette, keeping a keen eye on Cage’s wish to see him and Wayne as the first father-son tag team champions.

FTR and Stokely Hathaway backstage interview with Renee Paquette

FTR and Hathaway questioned why The Outrunners got involved in their post-match beatdown on AEW Collision last week and offered a meeting soon to sort things out.

“Hangman” Adam Page defeated The Beast Mortos

Cowboy and Beast locked up, with Mortos agile enough to dodge Page’s advances. Though he charged true, Mortos’s own speed was turned against him with a quick duck by Page. With some stiff and quick lariats, Page gained respite at the expense of the winded Mortos. The subsequent rampage of Mortos staggered with more lariats. Mortos twirled with a tornado dive to Page on the outside, followed by a Samoan Drop in the ring.

Page, subdued by Mortos, escaped with a Poisonrana, a lariat, and wound up for a successful Buckshot Lariat. With that, Page stood victorious over the beast.

Post-match, the arena went pitch-black. When the lights came on, the Young Bucks set Page up for an EVP Trigger. Moxley, Yuta, and Shafir reeled him up for a choke via chain. The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, & Powerhouse Hobbs) charged in, surrounding the ring. Will Ospreay also darted to Page’s aid.

Two hard-hitting forces colliding. That’s what it’s all about. Page’s momentum heading to All In is getting hotter and hotter. Mortos’s relationship to Mone is likely paying dividends, as he’s getting big spots deserving of his style and performance. One of the more underrated talents. The post-match feels like a possible tease for a Blood & Guts Match.

Final thoughts

Though not compellingly exciting as the recent shows, tonight was far from the worst. Not even bad or remotely close. I’d say above “fine” and “average”, yet not a thrill ride throughout. The 4-ways and Page versus Mortos shone the most. Plus Kota Ibushi’s AEW return was heartwarming, especially seeing that he seems in far better health and spirits.

Welcome to our live recap of tonight’s AEW Dynamite results.
