Toni Storm is in yet another eliminator match, because she faces the returning Skye Blue, Mina Shirakawa, and AZM in a four-way. Alexander’s technical style nearly grounded the Aerial Assassin, but Ospreay’s resiliency and acrobatics saved him. Takeshita landed a loud flying knee strike as Alexander launched Ospreay into the air. Page barreled through with a hot tag, toppling Alexander and Takeshita. Although evenly matched, Page saw an opening and capitalized with a Pop-up Powerbomb. Ospreay reaped the benefits of Page’s rampage with chops to Takeshita, leading to a unified front by their protagonist force.

Ospreay used his wily instincts to halt Alexander and Takeshita. He coordinated an Orihara Moonsault with Page to topple the two Don Callis Family members. A series of Oscutters thwarted Alexander and Takeshita’s comeback attempt. Page was tagged in after Ospreay teased a Hidden Blade. Tensions boiled as Page and Ospreay nearly executed their finishers on each other. Ultimately, they got the win following a Buckshot Lariat + Hidden Blade combination for the win on Alexander. The pair stared at each other in contempt after the bell.

Post-match, Takeshita and Alexander assaulted the winners, but couldn’t make any leeway. The misalignment of Page and Ospreay grew to a fervor, with respect visibly dissipating from each other.

Page signing a child’s shirt was a nice touch and one of the most babyface moves he’s made since his unhinged heel turn in 2024. Takeshita and Page have a chemistry that hasn’t been explored as much as it should be. But Alexander and Takeshita as a tag team is a destructive force, one that nearly toppled Page and Ospreay’s efforts.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="FRIENDS OR FOES? Gowen gained traction after a Flying Crossbody to the outside. Ricochet stunted his trajectory by throwing him around on the barricades. Gowen sought a Tornado DDT, but Ricochet caught it. Ricochet was a hair away from victory after a Vertigo, but only found a 2-count. He then attempted to use his scissors, but the referee caught him. Gowen took advantage of this distraction to use his prosthetic leg. Failing a Moonsault, Gowen lay on the mat after Ricochet’s Spirit Gun knocked him flat.

Post-match, Ricochet rubbed salt in Gowen’s wound by attacking him some more. Mark Briscoe came to Gowen’s aid, chasing off Ricochet.

It’s surreal seeing Gowen back on mainstream wrestling television almost two decades after seeing Brock Lesnar throw him down the stairs. That made his performance all the more impressive with how great he moved in the ring, and how highly the company trusts Ricochet to ensure a special match like this goes well.

MJF interview with Renee Paquette

MJF addressed his previous AEW World Championship reign and the upcoming Hurt Syndicate segment later in the night. MVP informed MJF that he must join them in the ring after their match.

Hurt Syndicate (c) defeated Top Flight for the AEW World Tag Team Championship

The Martins equalized Lashley as soon as they could, as they combined their efforts on Benjamin. Dante collided with a barricade because of Lashley’s propensity for flinging. He continued the same for Darius. Benjamin enjoyed the success of his partner’s neckbreaker on Darius. After some grappling, Benjamin tagged in Lashley for a Spear to Darius. A Hurt Lock by Lashley drained Dante until he tapped. Unsatisfied, he continued applying the hold after the match was won.

Post-match, the ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara called out Hurt Syndicate for their behavior. Rhodes elaborated that the pair wanted the AEW World Tag Team Championships to complement theirs. The CRU entered, and the audience immediately refused to hear them. Lio Rush stated that they had already defeated Top Flight, so they should be next in line. Rhodes retorted that they should wait their turn. A tired MVP gave them an ultimatum to face off on AEW Collision, and the winner could face them at Double or Nothing.

A blast of a match. It didn’t try to be anything too spectacular. Maximizing minutes and concluding succinctly while leaving one feeling that so much happened.

Bobby Lashley answers MJF

Summoning MJF to no avail, Lashley and MVP requested Benjamin retrieve him. For some reason, he was hiding behind the production table near Tony Khan, who snitched him out. Once again, MVP and Benjamin voted in favor of MJF joining Hurt Syndicate. Lashley kept teasing MJF with his wavering vote as Benjamin teased a superkick in the background. At last, Lashley voted with a thumbs up. A gleeful MJF jumped onto Lashley for a fond hug but he was pushed off. MVP announced there would be a contract signing to make it official the following week.

Man, that was cathartic. Either this storyline will result in MJF becoming a big babyface on Hurt Syndicate’s path to dominance, or he’ll inevitably betray them. Fun times!

<iframe loading="lazy" title="HE'S IN?! Blue took the time to soak in the Chicago pop as she emotionally approached the ring. Blue and Storm brawled on the outside, while Shirakawa dropped AZM on the outside with a Tornado DDT. Storm and Shirakawa pressed Blue and AZM to the mat and rained down fists on them. Storm endeavored to resist the flying bodies of Shirakawa and AZM, only for all three to tumble from a leap by Blue. A spider crawled onscreen during this match—no, my home wasn’t invaded by arachnids, it’s yet another Thekla tease. Storm received an onslaught of offense from all three women, sending her to the outside.

She fired back at each of them, eating a kick from a prepared Shirakawa. AZM broke up a Code Blue on Shirakaw, dropping Blue with a plant to the ground. Storm was seconds away from a Storm Zero win on AZM. Countering Storm’s Big Package with one of her own, Shirakawa gained a surprise upset victory. Shirakawa’s Empress Nexus Venus music followed.

Post-match, Mercedes Mone attacked AZM en route to the back. Seeking vengeance for AZM’s victory at the previous weekend’s NJPW Resurgence event, Mone instead was chased off by Jamie Hayter.

Sabu tribute

Excalibur listed Sabu’s achievements and style. He handed it off to Taz, who emotionally gave his old foe his due. Taz said it best by stating that Sabu was “aura before aura was aura”.

Nigel McGuinness apology

McGuinness apologized to Tony Schiavone for doing what he told him not to do. He attempted to apologize to Daniel Garcia, who declared there was nothing to be sorry for. Garcia requested that McGuinness join him against FTR. Stokely Hathaway berated McGuinness before challenging him and Garcia in tag team action. McGuinness questioned why he would partake when FTR have all these championship wins whereas he doesn’t know Garcia well enough to partner with him. Hathaway seemed on the same page as Garcia in wanting the tag match, as he provoked McGuinness by mentioning his history with hepatitis.

FTR ambushed the duo, laying them out. Daddy Magic Matt Menard charged to their rescue, chasing the trio of rapscallions out of the arena.

Jon Moxley (c) defeated Samoa Joe for the AEW Men’s World Championship

Moxley hesitated to lock up with Joe, instead driving him into the corner. A Big Rolling Elbow by Joe careened Moxley across the ring before flinging the singles champion into the cage. Joe drew blood from Moxley during a commercial break as The Opps and the Death Riders joined by ringside outside the cage. Joe punished Moxley with an Atomic Drop for attempting an escape. Moxley bit Joe’s face, leaping over him for multiple failed lariats before landing a Cutter. Joe kicked out of a Paradigm Shift with a close nearfall. Joe brought in Moxley for a Coquina Clutch, wearing down the champion. The Death Riders approached the cage to interfere, but Willow Nightingale and Powerhouse Hobbs stopped them. Gabe Kidd from NJPW snuck Moxley his briefcase. The champion used it to strike Joe, thus retaining his gold.

Post-match, the Young Bucks attempted to shake hands with the Death Riders. Kenny Omega sprinted to the ring. Kazuchika Okada was chased off by “Speedball” Mike Bailey. The Young Bucks, Death Riders, and Gabe Kidd lowered the cage as they battered the remnants of Joe and Omega. Swerve Strickland climbed the ring and took out everyone with a single leap. Nick Jackson frantically raised the cage, and the megateam fled. Strickland, with everyone in the ring, challenged The Elite, Death Riders, and Kidd to an Anarchy in the Arena Match at Double or Nothing.

My Samoa Joe bias aside, this was an exciting main event. I almost felt like I was watching the old Moxley. Moreover, I am hyped for Anarchy in the Arena.

Final thoughts

Gosh, this was an exciting Dynamite. Every match hit its point in resonating fashion. If it didn’t exceed your expectations, it at least met them. The women naturally killed it, and the main event was a spectacle. The Zack Gowen match put excellent heat on Ricochet. All around a good show and you’d be in for a treat once you watch it.

Welcome to our live recap of tonight’s AEW Dynamite results.
