The card is full of four championship matches that will prove to be fantastic, and an attraction match that will be a car wreck of epic proportions. It should be a great night of wrestling and a perfect follow-up to their biggest show of the year.

As intriguing as the matchups are, their results are just as fascinating. There isn’t a match on the card with a clear-cut winner, and we all know that WWE likes to pull the rug out from under us occasionally. That being said, it’s time to take a crack at predicting how Backlash will pan out.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Dominik Mysterio vs Penta

Dominik winning the Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania was a pleasant surprise. It was a genuine shock and one that got a massive pop from the Las Vegas crowd. Cheers are starting to replace the chorus of boo’s that followed him to the ring, but this could be the day on which his luck runs out.

The four-way match at ‘Mania was a way to shield Penta from a loss, but in a one-on-one match, waiting to reach the surface and Balor costing his stablemate the championship is the logical way for them to begin their long-awaited feud. Plus, Penta is tailor-made for a lengthy mid-card run. A run that should start at WWE Backlash 2025.

Winner: Penta

Women’s Intercontinental Championship Match: Lyra Valkyria vs Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch turning heel was the best thing that could have happened to her character. There isn’t much for her to do as the baby face, and this gives her a chance to develop her character further.

The mentor/mentee relationship between Lyra and Becky has been a great driving force behind this feud. It has added an edge to Valkyria’s character and a whole new level of arrogance to Big Time Becks. Their segments have been some of the best television this year, and there is hope that this will be a program that will last past this contest.

If WWE decides to keep this feud going, and by all rights, they should, then Becky winning is the right play here. It will give Valkyria a great chase over the summer and will lead to her finally upending her former friend come Summerslam, or some other major PLE. This is a great way to develop the young upstart into a future star.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Gunther vs Pat McAfee

Gunther had to be given something coming out of his World Championship loss, and this was it. He needed to be kept away from the championship picture, and therefore, the half-commentator, half-wrestler, and all-around loudmouth will be fed his way.

McAfee isn’t going to stand a snowball’s chance in you know where, during this match. Gunther is a former world champion and one of the stiffest workers in the company. McAfee had a hard time against 76-year-old former WWE Chairman, so why would he last even 30 seconds against the Ring General?

There must be something more to this match. Judging from online rumours, a certain legend could be returning to the company to put a stop to the bloodshed, but to make no mistake Gunther is winning this match.

Winner: Gunther

Fatal-Four Way Match for the United States Championship: Jacob Fatu vs L.A. Knight vs Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest

Combining two WrestleMania programs into this match has been a great idea. Adding to former World Champions has given the SmackDown mid-card scene an extra push. There has been some great promo work from Knight and McIntyre, and champion Jacob Fatu has looked like the beast that he is. There is a buzz of excitement surrounding this contest.

Knight, McIntyre, or Priest would make great United States Champions, but the ball is solely in the court of the current champ. Jacob Fatu’s star is on the rise, and WWE is putting all its weight behind him. He will be the U.S. Champ for some time to come and will get a huge victory in his first major title defense.

Winner: Jacob Fatu

WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs Randy Orton

Rejoice that we are getting this match, because it is likely to be the last time we see these two rivals in a WWE ring. The history between John Cena and Randy Orton has been mulled over by everyone who enjoys professional wrestling. They came up together and became the two greatest wrestlers of their generation.

Their feuds have become a thing of myth, and at WWE Backlash 2025, they will write the final chapter in a story that has lasted decades.

The crowd will be rabid for Randy Orton, and John Cena will no doubt play off this to get as much heat as possible. It will be fun to watch this match for many reasons, but one will be the reversal of the heel/face dynamic between the two men. It will be a welcome change from many of their past matches.

John Cena is on a mission to retire as the WWE Champion. It has consumed everything about him, and it is very hard to see this mission end on his first title defense. There will be some shenanigans involved, but John Cena will retain the strap.

Winner: John Cena

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Backlash 2025 St. Louis results and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
