It is one of their most recognizable names and has predominantly followed WrestleMania. It is a show that finishes lingering WrestleMania 41 issues and starts new programs that carry WWE into the summer. WWE Backlash St. Louis is taking place only a few weeks after the biggest show of the year, so WWE has had to scramble and put its show together quickly.

There has been a rushed feeling amongst the WWE Universe, but that doesn’t mean that WWE has given us plenty of reasons to tune into Netflix on Saturday. It should be an exciting show with plenty of great matches, and maybe some surprises in store. Here are five reasons why you should watch Backlash.

This May Be The Last Time We See John Cena and Randy Orton Face-Off

John Cena and Randy Orton have forever been linked to one another. They came up through developmental and became two of the greatest wrestlers of their generation.

Their feuds have become the thing of legend, with the two battling over the WWE Championship in more matches than anyone can count. In all, they have faced each other in 21 singles matches, not to mention the numerous multi-man matches that they were a part of.

These men were the faces of the Ruthless Generation. Their battles, while lengthy, were legendary, and it’s a history that will be ending on Saturday.

WWE Backlash St. Louis could mark the last time that these two titans meet one another in the squared circle, and over the WWE Championship no less. That alone would be the price of admission.

A United States Championship Match That Could Be A Banger

The mid-card scene on SmackDown is stacked so much so that WWE decided to put together a United States Championship Fatal-Four Way at Backlash. A four-way match that could very well be one of the best matches of the year.

Jacob Fatu, LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, and Damian Priest present a very interesting dynamic headed into Backlash. Two pairs of men had good-to-great matches at Wrestlemania, and there are still many lingering issues that need to be taken care of. Also, all four men are known to thrive on chaos, and that is the exact type of atmosphere.

There should be no doubt that this match will be the kind of car wreck that we all like to watch. Look for rules to be broken, and maybe even a weapon or two to be broken out. No doubt these men will tear each other apart.

The Continuing Drama Between Seth Rollins and the Raw Roster Will Take Centre Stage

Seth Rollins aligning himself with Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker created a force that is going to dominate the Raw roster. They are the main heel stable, and judging from their segments with Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and CM Punk, there is going to be a massive clash on the horizon.

It is only a matter of time before all of these men meet in the ring, and what better time to do that than Backlash?

Adding on to that, Rollins’ stable looks to be one man short. Pairing them off with another wrestler would make they a more formidable group, and the speculation is already there that this is going to happen soon. Best to do it with the world watching in St. Louis.

Seeing Pat McAfee Get His Mouth Shut

Let’s start this off by saying that yes, McAfee has been somewhat entertaining on commentary, but he has also been incredibly annoying and long-winded behind the desk. It is a personality trait that has endeared him to many, but has largely gone unchecked since he joined WWE. That is going to change drastically at WWE Backlash St. Louis.

Running into an angry Gunther is a bad thing for McAfee but a fantastic thing for the rest of us. The Ring General is angry and looking to take his frustrations out on WWE’s loudmouth commentator. It should be a squash of a match, but fun to watch Gunther tear McAfee limb from limb.

Knowing WWE, there is going to be some type of run-in or surprise return attached to this match. So, there is that little caveat to look forward to as well.

Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria Could Be The Best Of The Year

Becky Lynch turning heel was exactly what the women’s mid-card scene needed. There wasn’t a ton of hype surrounding the IC Championship, and that’s due to a lack of credible contenders. It hasn’t been built up well, but that is starting to change with the advent of Lynch. She gives Valkyria a great opponent and one that will only raise the prestige of the new championship.

Once in the ring, there should be no doubt that these two women will put on a great match. Both are incredible wrestlers and have developed great chemistry in a very short time.

Hopefully, they are given the time necessary to tell a great story, and judging by the Triple H era, that’s exactly what we are going to get.

It will be an emotional rollercoaster between mentor and mentee, and should have no problem being one of the best women’s matches of the year.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Backlash St. Louis and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
