He then went on to mention The Younb Bucks, declaring that he doesn’t recognize them anymore.

Jon Moxley defeated Katsuyori Shibata

Shibata’s MMA background came in handy as he grounded Moxley with a rear-naked choke that required a rope break to save the champion. Moxley fired back with some physical offense, but Shibata withstood it as though the strikes were candy. Wearing Moxley down on the turnbuckle, Shibata executed his trademark dropkick. Moxley landed a lariat and followed with a piledriver, but suffered a Penalty Kick in return. Shibata clutched Moxley in for a standing choke, which Moxley countered with a rear-naked choke of his own, rendering Shibata unconscious.

A quick yet enthralling opener that, had Shibata strategized for Moxley’s height, would have gone differently (I’d hope). I hope Samoa Joe steps up to take on Moxley in Shibata’s honor.

Young Bucks and Kenny Omega in-ring segment

The Young Bucks walked to the ring. Moxley, inaudible, told them off and stormed off. The Young Bucks illuminated fans to their motives of stopping Swerve Strickland at AEW Dynasty. They said they were honoring Adam Page’s wish to never see Strickland wear the AEW World Championship ever again. Furthermore, they elaborated that their actions were a peace offering between them and the Death Riders.

Omega approached the Bucks, stating that he had used his EVP power to try and improve AEW, “restoring the feeling”. Proceeding to share a personal parable about two dogs he used to hang out with, he compared what the Bucks were doing to AEW to dogs spreading feces around. Aside from the Death Riders, he blamed the Bucks for ruining what he’s given his “life, body, and soul” to, before roasting their appearance.

Kazuchika Okada strutted out, leaving Omega outnumbered, at least until Swerve Strickland snuck from behind the ring, chair in hand. They left, as did Omega. Strickland ended the segment stating that it was “Buck-hunting season”.

Swerve Strickland defeated PAC

PAC blindsided Strickland after his promo, but fell to a boot while Prince Nana boomed his “Whose House?” chants. Strickland caught PAC at every move, at one point powerbombing him into the turnbuckle. PAC landed awkwardly on the outside, but he forced his way back in the ring, where he hobbled himself into a Swerve Stomp. Strickland took this opportunity to pin PAC for the win.

A legit injury to PAC—we wish him the best in his recovery. So much has happened from the opener to this match. Keeping the Death Riders and The Elite in focus, it also shone a light on Kenny Omega and Strickland as ones to watch while psychologically positioning The Opps to build in the background. Punctuated with an electric match between Strickland and PAC, the polarizing main event angle of Dynasty had an entertaining fallout play out.

Hangman Page and Prince Nana segment

Renee Paquette attempted an interview with Page, but he stormed away into Swerve Strickland’s locker room. Only Nana was there to greet him. Page instructed him to tell Strickland he needed to have words with him. Nana attempted to apologize for his part in Page’s torment during their feud, but Page furiously rejected it.

Athena vs Mercedes Mone set for AEW Spring BreaktThru, Harley Cameron to accompany Mone

Mark Briscoe, Will Ospreay, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, & Kevin Knight defeat CRU (Lio Rush & Action Andretti), Ricochet, & The Beast Mortos

Ricochet and Bailey teased an encounter, but Mortos ran it back with the mullet-wearing Canadian instead. Ricochet then exited baldly to the outside. Mayhem ensued, with the babyface team cornering their respective opponent for a beatdown in each corner. Bailey, Ospreay, Briscoe, and Knight did their teamwork chant while Ricochet tried a tope suicida, landing on his feet. In a stunning display of camera work, Ricochet’s fear oozed through the screen as the opposite team cornered him. Bailey and Ricochet soon connected, with the latter landing a leaping stomp. Members of both teams traded finishers, with Bailey and Briscoe staggering Mortos with a double Crane Kick, an Oscutter from Ospreay, and a splash from Knight. Ospreay won the match via a Hidden Blade to Mortos for the 3-count pinfall.

This was an insane bit of levity to the heavy hour of continuous work for the Death Riders angle. So over-the-top and goofy and showing the importance of talent rotation through angles. Perfect for mid-show cooldowns.

FTR Follow-Up

A vignette displayed FTR’s assault on Cope after their loss to the Death Riders at Dynasty. Tony Schiavone berated them on commentary afterwards.

Hurt Syndicate Celebration

MVP touted the success of another title retention by Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. MJF joined them, repeating their catchphrase, “We hurt people!” Announcing their potential to help him win back the AEW Men’s World Championship, until Lashley interrupted him, that the Syndicate doesn’t need him. The two shouted over each other, leading Benjamin and MVP to separate them. MVP proposed a thumbs up/thumbs down vote—MVP voted thumbs up, Benjamin and Lashley voted thumbs down.

Renee Paquette interviewed Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford backstage

Ford proclaimed Bayne’s power and dominance would triumph over the AEW women’s division. Bayne cut her off, stating that she will make everyone bow down.

Kris Statlander defeated Thunder Rosa (Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Semi-Final)

Toni Storm trotted to the commentary table, crawling over it to the left of Tony Schiavone.

Rosa entered the ring, holding a fan’s sign saying “Women’s wrestling is alive and well”. She fired off on Statlander, landing a hard roundhouse kick. Statlander planted Rosa soundly with a Thunderbomb. Holding Statlander strongly in her control, Rosa thudded her with a Destroyer. Following with a Shining Wizard, she ran the ropes for more hopeful offense, only to fall to a discus lariat. Statlander ended the match by slamming her with Staturday Night Fever for the win.

This exemplifies the diversity and tenacity of the AEW women’s division. Many memorable characters and styles set each woman apart in this era of AEW, and I imagine it’s very cathartic for that side of the roster.

Undisputed Kingdom segment

Adam Cole boasted his newly won TNT Championship. Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong then voiced their aspirations for tag team gold of their own.

TV Time with The Learning Tree Chris Jericho

Jericho halfheartedly praised Bandido for his win at AEW Dynasty before beckoning Big Bill and Bryan Keith to the ring. As Jericho prepared to address them, Bill interrupted. Implying he has been insulted more than he has learned, he gave Jericho the ultimatum of actually teaching him and Keith something, or else they would leave. Jericho responded that he wanted the best for them, but their failures are becoming his. He said, “I’m not angry, I’m disappointed”, repeating it as he struck the Learning Tree monitor over and over. Bill and Keith watched in combined rage and fear as Jericho cursed at them and said he was leaving. He signed a child’s sign immediately after.

I promise I’m okay, but this was excellent television from Chris Jericho. Genuinely different from his usual annoying schtick, reflecting a man who’s gone completely off the deep end.

MVP and MJF backstage segment

MJF bemoaned the treatment he received from Lashley and Benjamin. MVP iterated it was business, hinting that MJF gives something viable for the others to see what he sees in him.

Chris Jericho parking lot segment

Still carrying his bat, Lloyd I think, Jericho destroyed some food outside of the building. He then left, entering the passenger seat of a truck away from the arena.

The Opps (Samoa Joe & HOOK) defeated Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta)

Yuta worked Joe’s arm and slapped him, only enraging him. Castagnoli tagged in, but they were evenly matched. Joe softened Yuta up for HOOK, yet Castagnoli did the same with a stomp to his midsection. Together, Catagnoli and Yuta weakened HOOK. Incapacitated by a T-Bone Suplex, Castagnoli left Yuta to suffer the wrath of HOOK. Castagnoli capitalized with an uppercut. Joe intercepted him with a slam and further monstrous offense. Jon Moxley slithered in, distracting both the referee and Yuta. Katsuyori Shibata snuck up on Moxley, dragging him to the floor as Joe did Castagnoli while HOOK forced Yuta to sleep in the ring.

Though HOOK won, Marina Shafir gave her team the opening for a post-match beatdown. Taking out Joe’s legs, knocking Shibata out, and slamming HOOK on an unfolded chair, they slithered away as a furious and sweaty Joe watched from a distance. Calling out their cowardice, Joe announced the Opps were now coming for the AEW World Trios Championship.

Listen. I’m a Samoa Joe guy. Of course, I’m going to root for him. Same with Shibata. Now HOOK by proxy. As they take on the Death Riders in the future, I can’t think of any other team better suited for the trios gold. In a similar vein, I want Joe to dethrone Moxley for the World Championship.

Closing thoughts

Top to bottom, the show did its best to make up for that divisive ending to Dynasty. The half-hour of Death Riders and Elite drama mixed with Opps teases made the show must-watch. The Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland follow-ups give their fans something to chew on. That 8-man tag had little consequence yet was a lot of fun to break up the intensity. Rosa and Statlander were awesome and showcased their special talents. And an explosive main event with teases of epic trios clashes cannot be seen as anything other than exciting.
