Well tonight, the script flipped a little bit as it was Rhodes who came out first and Cena nowhere to be found. Though, someone who’s been around as long as Big Match John made his appearance known. As Rhodes was highlighting his upcoming WrestleMania match and reminding fans that on Monday, once again he and Cena would be face to face, the champ was interrupted by Randy Orton. The Legend Killer was out there to praise Rhodes as he mentioned watching Rhodes grow in the business to where he is today. Orton said Rhodes worked hard and he knew that he needed to leave, which took a lot of courage. But Rhodes made his way back and look at him now. He’s changed the business and no one appreciates that more than Orton. The two were certainly emotional as Orton referenced Rhodes wrestling Seth Rollins with a torn pec at Hell in a Cell before mentioned Rhodes defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. This is Rhodes’ story now, and he’s writing his own legacy. Orton gave Rhodes all the respect in the world as he said how hot the business was now with Rhodes on top. Orton told his former protege how much he loved him and how proud he was.

It was a heartwarming moment but Randy is still the Apex Predator. After saying how he was going to punt Kevin Owens in the head at WrestleMania and how Rhodes was going to beat the crap out of Cena, Orton reminded his friend there will come a time when their paths will cross and Orton will be looking for a world title shot. He promised he wouldn’t attack Rhodes like Cena did, like a coward, but he’ll let him know when he’s coming for him.

The friendly banter wasn’t for everyone however as Drew McIntyre made his way to the ring to talk about how sick the love fest between those two makes him. McIntyre turned his attention to Orton questioning what he’d even done since being back to earn a title shot. McIntyre said Orton needs to go to the back of the line before turning his attention to Rhodes. McIntyre says Rhodes should have listened to him and everyone in the company and the fans should have listened to him when it came to Cena. McIntyre insists he should have been facing Rhodes at WrestleMania but he’s not, thanks to Damian Priest. McIntyre promises to take the world title from Rhodes and tells Orton Owens has a point. McIntyre says is Orton provokes him, he’ll end his career permanently. Rhodes attacks McIntyre to set up the almost-RKO but McIntyre evades at the last second.

WWE Tag Team Championship: Street Profits vs Pretty Deadly

It was a homecoming for Pretty Deadly as the London-born duo made their way to the ring. Angleo Dawkins and Kit Wilson started things off with Dawson getting an early upper hand. Pretty Deadly responded with a quick double team before the Street Profits took back over. It was very much a battle for control in the early going. The match was pretty even until the Profits isolated Wilson preventing a tag. Once Elton Prince finally tagged in, he cleared the ring but his moment was short-lived as Dawkins stopped him in his tracks. Street Profits with a double team pinning maneuver but no, Wilson was there to break up the tag. Prince with a massive catapult for a two count as Pretty Deadly briefly gained control. Ford tagged in hitting Wilson with a Frog Splash to shift the momentum back to the Profits. Both teams had some close near falls as the Profits utilized their double team attack on Prince. Wilson made the save. This gave Pretty Deadly a little bit of a window, hitting duel uppercuts and a near fall with Spilt Milk. But no, Dawkins dumped Wilson over the ropes, picked him up, and set up to hit the Doomsday Blockbuster for the win. Profits retain and for now, there is some stability in the SmackDown tag team division.

Katana Chance and Kayden Carter vs The Secret Hervice (Piper Niven and Alba Fyre)

Right before the match, these four, Chelsea Green, and Zelina Vega did some jaw-jacking backstage with the two sides agreeing to fight right away. In the early-going, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance had the edge, double-teaming Alba Fyre. But it didn’t last long. Piper Niven made her way into the match, taking both Chance and Carter off the apron with a dive. Her strength advantage against Chance was evident and in the ring, Niven and Frye were able to isolate the smaller competitor and control the match. As Carter tagged in, her team briefly rallied as she hit Fyre with a huge boot and legdrop off the ropes. This led to a little miscommunication for Green’s minions as Niven accidentally took out Fyre. Carter and Chance used this as an opportunity and double-teamed Niven. The two hit the Keg Stand but Fyre broke up the pin. Action continued to pick up as Carter dove onto Fyre. Just as things seemed like Carter and Chance would have the match won, Green distracted the referee allowing Niven to hit Carter with the Piper Driver to pick up the pin for the Secret Hervice. After the match, Fyre and Niven continued the attack until Vega made the save to take out both women. This allowed Green to attack Vega from behind. Vega tried to fight back but the numbers game got her and Green, Niven, and Fyre were able to neutralize her.

WWE United States Championship: LA Knight vs Braun Strowman

The second of the night’s two title matches started hot and heavy with Braun Strowman using his strength advantage to overpower LA Knight. But Knight continued to fight back even as Strowman controlled the early-going. Finally, Knight found his opportunity and drilled Strowman with a dropkick sending the Monster through the ropes. But Strowman right back with a huge boot to send Knight to the mat. The two went back-and-forth for a while with both men getting their licks in. As the match rolled on, Knight attempted a suplex but he couldn’t lift Strowman at first. He caught Strowman with a bulldog and then a series of punches, wearing him down. This time, Knight was able to land the massive suplex followed by an elbow drop. But it wasn’t enough. Strowman back to his feet, sent Knight over the ropes with a clothesline and that’s when things got out of hand. Jacob Fatu arrived to take out both men, leading to the no contest. Fatu was relentless, taking Strowman out with a huge Samoan Drop onto the announce table to pop the crowd. He turned his attention to Knight, who tried to fight him off but was no match. Fatu with the pop-up Samoan Drop. Back to Strowman for some hit attacks followed by not one but two moonsaults off the top rope.

Backstage, Jimmy Uso talks about slapping GUNTHER and his match against him on Monday. He says Jey Uso is going to win at WrestleMania before the Miz and Carmelo Hayes roll up. Miz tells Uso that both he and Jey are just background actors, sidekicks in the whole Bloodline story. It was never about them and they are simply blips on the radar. Mis tells Uso not to slap him and Jimmy teases but then laughs it off. He challenges the Miz to a match tonight and shortly after, it’s made official.

Also backstage, Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga confront Fatu but he’s quick to brush them off. Sikoa won’t back down that easily though and tension rises between the two. Fatu promises that against Strowman, he will be the last man standing and he will win the United States Championship, with or without their help.

Continuing a trio of Bloodline family segments, we next see a pre-taped video of Naomi talking about her current position. Naomi says she has always done the right thing and when she attacked Jade Cargill, it wasn’t any different. She was doing the right thing. Naomi doesn’t understand why she’s the bad guy in all of this and said it broke her heart. Naomi says Cargill stole her place alongside Bianca Belair, someone she called a friend. Naomi questioned Belair to be honest and answer who had her back, who inspired her. Because it’s not Jade. Naomi noted she’s had enough. She’s done being underappreciated, undervalued, and treated like an afterthought. If Cargill continues to be a problem, Naomi warns her she should proceed with caution.

Backstage we see Cargill with Nick Aldis as she’s trying to get a match with Naomi. Aldis claims no one has seen her so Cargill tells him that when she does show up, she’s going to go after her on-site. Michin and B-Fab show up to hype up Cargill and tell her Naomi deserves everything she has coming to her.

Michin (w/ B-Fab) vs Charlotte Flair

Seems the walls of the O-2 must be pretty thin because before Charlotte Flair could even make her entrance, Naomi popped up to take out Michin and slam B-Fab into the barricade. Naomi continued her attack until Cargill came out and Naomi fled through the crowd. Flair finally came down the ramp for the match as Cargill stared her down. Flair hits Michin with a boot to give her the momentum to start off with and continues to ground her challenger in the early-going. Michin manages to rally briefly hitting Flair with a kick but then Flair responds with a boot of her own. Michin dumps Flair with a powerbomb and begins to build momentum with a nearfall followed by a back suplex. Cannonball in the corner and it’s all Michin briefly. But then Flair dodges the Eat Defeat. Michin lands it on the second attempt, but Flair has her foot on the ropes. Flair takes over, targeting Michin’s leg and eventually getting her to tap to the Figure-Eight.

Backstage, Tiffany Stratton is asked about Flair’s verbal attack on her last week. Stratton says Flair is insecure, so much so she didn’t even give Stratton room to speak. Stratton reminds that she’s not the one who has something to lose. At WrestleMania, Flair has more to be concerned about as if she loses, she’ll have lost to someone who she thinks is beneath her, just a little girl. But when Stratton wins, she hopes Flair will finally shut up. Stratton promises to walk out of WrestleMania still champ.

Randy Orton vs Drew McIntyre

Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre start hot with both looking for the early edge. McIntyre begins his trash talking asking Orton about his injured back, allowing Orton to take the upper hand. Orton gets McIntyre into the corner with a series of punches. Action heads out of the ring and it’s clear these two have no use for the other. Orton slams McIntyre face first onto the broadcast table twice as McIntyre sneaks in a thumb to the eye, taking Orton out of his momentum. McIntyre with a Russian Legsweep to Orton onto the barricade. This allows McIntyre to take advantage until Orton returns the favor with a thumb to McIntyre’s eye. The two continue to trade blows before Orton hits the clothesline and snap slam. Vintage Orton. He follows up with the spike DDT through the ropes before getting in position for the RKO. But before he can hit it, Owens walks down the ramp creating the distraction. As Orton turns his attention back to McIntyre, boom, right into the Claymore. McIntyre with the 1-2-3. After the match, Owens pulls Orton out of the ring and slams him onto the dek. He attempts the piledriver but Orton reverses it. He sets up for the punt but Owens runs away through the crowd.

It’s official, that luchador we’ve been seeing the last few weeks is Rey Fenix. He debuts next week.

The Miz vs Jimmy Uso

Jimmy Uso is in charge in the early-going, controlling the action from the bell. Miz takes control after a bit, grounding Uso, but Uso responds with a second uppercut of the match. Miz hits Uso with a neckbreaker and grounds him again. Uso attempts to rally but it’s all Miz at this juncture. But the match is pretty even with the two trading periods of being top. Uso manages to regain the advantage firing up a clothesline before hitting Miz with a huge right. Miz responds with a clothesline and another. Uso with a superkick. With Uso in control, he sets up for the Uso Splash and gets the pin. Big win for Big Jim. Uso grabs the headset to put GUNTHER on notice saying he’s going to turn the Ring General into nothing more than a private.

Backstage, McIntyre is with Lewis Capaldi saying Priest is too much of a coward to face him. But then McIntyre opens a door and Priest is there waiting. Priest immediately attacks McIntyre, slamming his head onto a car and then taking a bystander out through the table. Priest then slams McIntyre into the windshield of the car and walks away. McIntyre says he has glass in his eye as officials check on him and CM Punk just happens to walk by with a smile. First Punk says he still works with children, now this. WWE is really digging the nail in.

Contract Signing: Reigns/Rollins/Punk

It’s time for the main event, the contract signing.

Roman Reigns, accompanied by Paul Heyman, makes hie way to the ring first. Reigns has London acknowledge him before turning his attention to the fans. Reigns says he loves how they sing him to the ring but he’s there for business. Rollins interrupts saying he knows a little something about the fans singing one to the ring. Rollins points out that he and Reigns have shared history in the O2, most notably putting the Undertaker through a table. Rollins takes a moment to highlight that history saying the two of them set out to reshape WWE and they’ve done just that. Mission accomplished. Reigns points out any “we” between the two of them died a long time ago and it’s not “we” who have shaped WWE, its him. Reigns says he is the one who made WWE what it is today and he is the one that made the product so good that Netflix came calling. Rollins laughs telling Reigns its that mindset that is why he keeps screwing his former friend. Rollins says Reigns let Punk, the biggest snake of them all, access back into the garden. And not only that, he shook his hand while doing so. Which means Rollins will once again have to clean up Reigns’ mess.

Punk arrives and wastes no time, immediately sitting at the table and paging through the contract. Reigns turns his attention to Heyman saying he needs to smarten Punk up. Heyman tells Punk he knows what he’s looking for and promises him it is indeed in there. The announcement is made that their triple threat match will indeed main event one of the nights of WrestleMania. Punk is emotional as this is everything he’s ever wanted. Rollins says Punk doesn’t deserve it because main eventing WrestleMania is sacred and that’s not a right he’s earned. Punk thanks the fans but Reigns says he should be thanking him as he is the reason this match is the main event. Punk gets on one knee and sarcastically thanks him for allowing him to main event WrestleMania…but…that’s nit the favor Heyman owes him.

The plot thickens as SmackDown goes off the air.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE in Europe, WWE SmackDown tonight, SmackDown spoilers, and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
