He has always been a leader, and he can’t stand people who are soft.

He was a champion in football, and now, he is looking to become a champion in WWE. On the other hand, Braxton Cole is also a former American football player who suddenly found his path to a WWE tryout, and here he is, wrestling on this very show.

This was promoted last week as Harlem Lewis’ debut, which probably means we are getting a quick one here. Turns out that was correct. Lewis immediately takes Cole down with a gorilla press en route to a dominating performance that ends with a powerslam that easily earns him the victory (0:56).

After the bell, Harlem Lewis is confronted by Keanu Carver, who interrupts his ringside interview. Meanwhile, It’s Gal made his way to the ring to challenge for some competition, and a match is on!

It’s Gal vs. Keanu Carver

Gal could be making a fatal business decision here. Carver easily overpowers him from the start, brushes off his enzuigiri attempt, and puts him to bed with his signature sky-high powerbomb (1:28).

Kendal Grey and Carlee Bright, winners of last week’s first-ever match on Evolve, are interviewed in attendance from their VIP section. They talk about their win last week before Zayda Steel interrupts, irritated that she doesn’t have a match tonight.

Kylie Rae vs. Zara Zakher

“Smiley” Kylie Rae is a former AEW talent who actually wrestled in its first-ever PPV, Double or Nothing, in 2019. Zara Rakher, meanwhile, was a dancer and a gymnast who worked in television from a young age, and she has also wrestled in TJPW (Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling) before.

They call her “The Petite Powerhouse”. That’s a sick nickname.

This is billed as experience versus inexperience by the commentators, but Zara certainly doesn’t seem too interested in keeping things that way, matching up with the veteran Kylie for the majority. Zakher catches Rae with a spinebuster, as we saw some frustrations from Zayda Steel in the VIP lounge.

Zara counters Kylie’s crossface into a rollup, but Rae with a superkick to put her down again. However, Zara manages to sneak Smiley Kylie off guard with a roll up for an unexpected win (5:14).

Post-match, Zara emphasizes that she just beat the most experienced member of the roster and says that the next time, it is not going to be considered an upset. Zakher thanks Kylie for the match afterward. Zayda Steel, who is sitting at ringside and is not happy about this, intervenes, only for Wendy Choo to make her entrance to fend her away as we are set for our next match!

Wendy Choo vs. Aria Bennett

Aria Bennett is a mother of a four-year-old girl, a college gymnast, and an actress. She overcame a lot of obstacles to get here. NXT fans may have heard of Wendy Choo before.

Choo made her first WWE appearance in the 2018 Mae Young Classic. She is unpredictable, experienced, and devious.

Wendy stays in control for the most part, not giving Bennette a daylight to operate. A full Nelson slam and a Dirt Nap submission hold put Aria to sleep (2:07). Choo lays her black cape on Bennett afterward in a weird gesture.

Brinley Reece visits Grey and Bright at ringside and talks to them for a bit about her upcoming match next week.

First-Ever Face-Off: Luca Crusifino vs. Javier Bernal

We have our first-ever face-off on this show, as Luca Crusifino invites Javier Bernal to clear the air about the things he said last week. Osborne debuted in the sport at the age of 16.

This is a main event between two very experienced performers, and we get that sense from the minute the bell rang. Neither men gain clear advantages early on, relying on simple counters to keep their opponents grounded. Tensions flare when Mensah pushes Osborne off, and a springboard side-kick from Mensah turns the tide for good.

We are back with Mensah in control, as Riley slowly makes a comeback with a Frankensteiner that gets two. Mensah cuts him off with a full nelson suplex for a nearfall, but Osborne catches him with a dropkick to the leg while Mensah tries another springboard. A plancha follows and a Michinoku Driver gets another two.

Mensah hits The Innovator, a reverse electric chair drop variant, for two. They exchange a series of kicks before Riley goes up top, only to get caught with a backflip kick. Finally, Mensah finishes his man off with a ripcord overhead kick for the win (8:45).

Gallus Is Here In WWE Evolve!

Before the show ends, we head backstage, where Gallus (Wolfgang, Joe & Mark Coffey) wreak havoc on the scene, sending a message to the Evolve roster.

Final Thoughts

This is an improvement from last week’s show in terms of how well they are introducing the characters to new viewers. We got more of a glimpse of how the program is going to look in the long run, and that is a mixture of newcomer WWE ID prospects and a couple of NXT veterans here and there to help shape things up a bit. Keanu Carver is a star to look out for, and I’m excited about the Gallus boys’ involvement on this show.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on WWE Evolve and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
