He declared he’s not only happy to be back, but to be holding a single’s championship. Thanking Revolution opponent and former International Champion Konosuke Takeshita, he went on to proclaim that anyone in the world who feels ready to challenge him, can. As Omega left, The Opps, headed by Katsuyori Shibata, who will be in the International Championship Eliminator Tournament.

The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, & HOOK) defeated Vinny Pacifico, Eli Theseus, & Gabriel Aeros

Joe handled Theseus with his mighty strength while HOOK relentlessly pummeled Aeros. Shibata took out Thesus and Aeros at ringside before chopping Pacifico’s chest and following up with his signature turnbuckle dropkick. Shibata followed it up with a headlock and a Penalty Kick for the pinfall victory.

Simple and to the point. This polished Shibata up nicely before the tournament. Seeing Joe and HOOK sit back in support as he primes himself for the prospect of earning the right to challenge Kenny Omega was nice.

Ricochet backstage promo

Shrugging off his loss to Strickland at Revolution, Ricochet challenged Shibata to bring his A-game in their first round on this week’s AEW Collision.

Breaking News, Cope and Swerve Strickland backstage segment

Excalibur announced a rematch for the AEW World Championship as Jon Moxley defends his title once again against Cope on the March 19 episode of Dynamite in a Street Fight. He then declared that the winner of that match would face challenger Strickland at AEW Dynasty.

Backstage, Cope greeted Strickland, stating that if he won the championship next week, he’d be ready for Strickland. The soon-to-be challenger retorted with the same sentiment.

Jon Moxley backstage segment

Moxley bemoaned not putting Cope out of action but praised his tenacity despite being hurt. He then challenged Cope to put as many rules he wanted into their upcoming street fight match, that he’d not make the same mistake twice.

Hologram & Powerhouse Hobbs (with Harley Cameron as Harleygram) defeated Dralistico & Brian Cage (with The Beast Mortos)

Hobbs and Cage unleashed mayhem on the outside as Dralistico worked the neck and chopped the chest of Hologram. Dralistico spilled to the outside, and Hologram sought to capitalize with a tope suicida, but Cage caught him and reversed it with a vertical suplex. Hobbs provided Hologram a needed break with his hot tag, as he proceeded to demolish Dralistico and powerslam Cage. Bedlam ensued as Hologram prevented Dralistico and Cage from consistently combining their efforts on Cage. Hobbs was sent flying across the ring as Cage lifted him from the apron for a top rope vertical suplex, dropping him later with a powerbomb. Dralistico hoped for a Springboard Hurricanrana, reversed only by Hobbs’s Spinebuster counter. Hobbs secured the pinfall. Mark Davis and Lance Archer got in Dralistico’s face as he left before bickering with Cage.

It was a fine tag match and one that exemplified each man’s strengths. Not much else to say here except that I greatly appreciate Harley Cameron.

Hurt Syndicate backstage promo

MVP gave Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin next week off as they celebrate and look forward to whoever challenges them in the future. MVP said he’d figure things out for what’s next.

“Timeless” Toni Storm promo

Storm classily described her lingering injuries and damage from the Hollywood Ending Match at Revolution and bragged that she is still champion. Declaring herself as ready for the next challenger, she assured audiences that whatever comes will be “timeless.” She teased a 3-way bout between her, Mercedes Mone, and Athena. Before closing her segment, Storm was interrupted by the towering Megan Bayne.

Storm is one of the best characters and promos in the company. It’s no wonder that she’s belted up as one of the top stars again. As for what Bayne will bring to the table, I wonder how she’ll come out of a feud with the champ. Either way, Bayne has a lot to benefit from rubbing elbows with Storm.

“Speedball” Mike Bailey defeated The Beast Mortos

Bailey began the match with a flurry against Mortos, only suffering minimal damage. On the outside of the ring, Mortos overcame the speedy and agile debuting star to loud boos from the Fresno crowd. Escaping a slam into the ring post, Bailey mounted a comeback, punctuated with a tope suicida. Caught on the ropes, Bailey nearly ended Mortos with a Liger Bomb, but to no success. Catching Bailey in the air, Mortos dropped the newcomer with a Crucifix Bomb. A Press Slam from the top rope gave Mortos a close, close nearfall. A Backbreaker + Discuss Lariat stunned Bailey momentarily, but he responded with a Standing Moonsault Double Knee Drop and Crescent Kick for the victory.

Can we talk about how great a gatekeeper Mortos is? Anyone new to the company who steps to him looks like a star for newer audiences. Bailey is no exception, and his talents were on full display. He’s in good hands.

The Patriarchy backstage segment

Christian Cage complained about the ending of the main event match at Revolution. Nick and Martha Wayne confronted Cage, demanding he explain himself and apologize for not sticking to the plan. He retaliated, asking Nick how many titles he or his biological father had won. Cage went a step further, taunting Buddy Wayne’s death, demanding he stay silent and keep riding his coattails.

We’re finally entering a boiling point for Nick Wayne’s relationship with Cage, and I’m ready for it. This build has taken some time, and now that he’s standing up for himself, this potential feud will catapult him.

MJF in-ring promo

Following an interview attempt post-Revolution with Lexy Nair, where MJF punched his mirror into smithereens and yelled at her, MJF congratulated Hangman Page. However, he stated that they were not finished with each other yet. Before he could elaborate, MVP interrupted. They embraced, with the latter praising MJF’s career history and their shared history. Seeing MJf’s potential early on, he was disappointed in how far he’s fallen. No championship, no fear from anyone, and his recent loss to Page at Revolution. Rejecting MVP’s business card, he stated he doesn’t need the accolades that come with the Hurt Syndicate; he already earned his own. MVP suggested he reconsider as he left the ring.

Whether MJF joins or faces off against the Hurt Syndicate remains to be seen. However, I’m so ready for what comes from his and MVP’s verbal sparring.

Konosuke Takeshita defeated Max Caster

With a promo touting his status as the “Best Wrestler Alive,” Caster was met with a bitter Takeshita fresh off his International Championship loss to Kenny Omega at Revolution. Pleading with Takeshita to let him join the Don Callis Family and help Takeshita learn how to be a champion, the crowd taunted him (to which he said, “Stop.”) Takeshita pummeled him and ended him with a Raging Fire for a quick and easy win.

Easy, entertaining way for Takeshita to gain some early momentum post-loss.

Chris Jericho backstage promo

Jericho, holding Gravity’s mask like in the graveyard scene in William Shakespear’s “Hamlet”, he shifted his attention to Bandido. Fresh off his title retention at the Revolution Zero Hour, Jericho threatened Bandido with the same fate.

Willow Nightingale defeated Penelope Ford

Nightingale’s size and excitement held Ford at bay in the early goings and nearly pinned her halfway through, but Ford reversed with a roll-up. Ford attempted multiple comebacks, but Nightingale met them with her power. A Pounce from Nightingale ended the match with a pinfall.

Post-match, Ford attempted to assault Nightingale with a chair when Kris Statlander came to her aid. Megan Bayne did the same for Ford.

Ford’s form continues to flourish, but it’s nice to see Nightingale in full swing again, and as someone who missed her alliance with Statlander, I’m one pleased fan.

Mercedes Mone and Billie Starkz backstage segment

Mone requested Starkz to talk, and in their meeting, it seems a match on next week’s Dynamite is in the cards. Or, well, card.

Will Ospreay in-ring promo

Ospreay discussed his time in the Steel Cage Match with Kyle Fletcher (the one where they kept tasting each other’s blood). He then announced he was shifting his attention to the likes of Jon Moxley. He also declared his interest for the Owen Hart Tournament.

Jay White backstage promo

Acknowledging Ospreay’s promo, White moved on to declare similar intentions. Addressing Cope’s loss, White said there would be nothing standing between him and the AEW World Championship.

Hangman Adam Page and MJF backstage segment

Page addressed his win before bumping into MJF. Someone off-camera was eating and drinking, and the microphone seemed to have picked up on it. Page threatened MJF to stay away, but MJF stuck around to point out his insecurities. It seems they’re still in each other’s crosshairs as MJF mentioned earlier.

Orange Cassidy defeated Hechicero

Cassidy’s usual antics were met with Hechicero’s holds and techniques. After a hasty retreat to the outside by Hechicero, Cassidy took his moment to breathe by lying in the middle of the squared circle. Hechicero began working on the right knee of Cassidy and countered his DDT with a Hammerlock Backbreaker. Hechicero continued to impede any hopeful move Cassidy could employ. Countering each aerial maneuver with technical prowess, Hechicero fell due to a leg hook by Cassidy, locked into a pin that saw Cassidy move on in the International Championship Eliminator Tournament.

Post-match, “Speedball” Mike Bailey greeted Cassidy from the ramp as they’re set to collide in the next round of the tournament.

Excellent match. Both wrestlers contrasted each other well, as though in sync with different styles like dance partners. Cassidy sold the leg well, knowing when to use adrenaline and when to clutch at it.

Check back for tonight’s AEW Dynamite results.
