If WWE Evolution happens, it may occur on July 5th at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut. However, this is speculative.

As always, events are subject to change. Nevertheless, this news excites many fans.

After the inaugural WWE Evolution event in October 2018, held at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, many waited for the event to become a regular yearly fixture. Yet, Evolution 2 never materialised.

There were rumours, speculation, and words from one WWE veteran for why there was never a sequel. I’ll touch on this in my counter-argument article for 4 Ways Bringing Back Evolution Won’t Help the WWE and the Women’s Division.

Regardless, the event remains significant because of what it represented during that time of change. It was a milestone moment for WWE’s women. The event bridged the gap between WWE’s past, present, and future.

The last woman standing match between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair remains a standout match. As a platform, future stars like Toni Storm and Rhea Ripley got their first taste of the WWE PLE limelight.

While women’s wrestling has been normalized in 2025, giving the women their own PLE is more about celebration. Right now, there are various ways that Evolution’s return could help WWE beyond creative opportunities.

1. Publicity

Right now, WWE has never carried so much favour and gained so much positivity from the media. The impact of WWE Senior Vice President Chris Legentil and Nick Khan’s combined media expertise has been the foundation of the Paul Levesque Era. However, that doesn’t mean controversies, rumours, and allegations have disappeared.

The recent news that Mickie James will be replaced by Michelle McCool from LFG season 2 has reignited conversation about James’ historic mistreatment within WWE. It also raises questions, like why can’t the show have two female coaches? As Judy Obae has discussed here, there are inequities that fans and pundits are noticing.

WWE, as an organisation, knows how to promote every small achievement as a giant leap. The return of Evolution could be publicized as another potential achievement for WWE – another positive step for women’s wrestling. Such announcements do have a way of deflecting or redirecting conversation in the short term.

WWE’s marketing and PR during the first Women’s Revolution showed how the organisation could promote its present and future while side-stepping the undesirable aspects of their past, like the misogynistic treatment of the divas. Similarly, the success of the event during a record-breaking period could give further bragging rights to WWE and its women’s division.

2. Fan Service

Increasingly, there are fans online who are pointing out the disparity in how WWE’s women’s wrestlers are utilized on the main rosters. The relationship between wrestling fans and outrage is just as cyclical and sometimes performative as company PR.

What often quells concerns is fan service. Something that, under Triple H, we have seen in various ways. Bringing back the all-women’s event might be interpreted by some fans as a way of addressing concerns and representation of women’s wrestling.

At present, WWE fans are not desensitized to the thrill of getting that wish fulfilled. We saw/felt the reaction to John Cena’s heel turn. It felt monumental in part because it’s something many of us wanted for a decade plus.

For many, the prospect of another Evolution event would be another example of WWE having its finger on the pulse of its most dedicated fans.

3. Rewarding the Women’s Locker Room

Arguably, WWE has the best women’s division at its disposal. Excluding NXT, up and down the roster are so many unique and diverse wrestlers. Yet, some of these talented women are left in catering or at home.

Rumours of backstage frustration do come out every now and again. Some, like Shayna Blaszler, occasionally share their frustration.

“Cool. Damage CTRL gets injured…..and gets rewarded again. If only @ZoeyStarkWWE & I were that fragile, we could quit getting screwed out of opportunities.” Shayna Blaszler, February 9th, X.

Returning to NXT, the disparity between the treatment of women’s matches and storylines in the developmental brand compared to the main roster is noticeable. Although new championships have been introduced, Chelsea Green was scheduled to defend her US Championship against Michin on this week’s SmackDown – an opponent Green beat to win the belt back in December.

Bringing back a women’s only PLE would guarantee a spotlight for the women. Plus, more opportunities for storylines and meaningful creative heading into the event.

With effort and care, Evolution could be made into a significant event for celebrating WWE’s women and utilizing its roster. Beyond that, it would also, at least temporarily or yearly, help the midcard women’s championship.

4. Prominence for the Women’s Secondary Championship Belts

Triple H’s creative reign has seen the main women’s championships and champions receive prominent positioning, time, and creative care on Raw and SmackDown. On Raw, Liv Morgan’s title reign and storyline with Rhea Ripley (despite its flaws) was show-driving and engaging throughout last year.

There were plenty of reasons to love the story and characters. On SmackDown, the rise of Tiffany Stratton and the rehabilitation of Nia Jax into a formidable heel made two stars.

Yet, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships remained secondary. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, and then later Naomi as a tag team, held the belts on multiple occasions, but their storyline seemed more about aesthetics than character development.

While a big-time WrestleMania moment looms, WWE is finding the same issues in booking Cargill as AEW. The tag belts feel like props rather than prestigious.

The introduction of the Women’s Intercontinental and Women’s United States championships gives Lyra Valkyria, Chelsea Green, and their opponents more spotlight. Yet, in the long-term, there is the concern that both belts will lose their initial luster.

A women’s only PLE, if treated like a big event with emotive storylines and character-driven matches each year, could help boost these belts’ credibility. Or at least yearly provide an opportunity to revive some prestige.

5. NXT Integration at WWE Evolution

The original Evolution helped showcase the future stars of WWE’s women’s division. There’s no reason a revival could not do the same.

NXT is stacked with both homegrown wrestlers, like Jaida Parker, and international stars, like Giuila and Stephanie Vaquer. Having another event where fans can expect to see the next top woman debut would stoke expectations and could help make them that future star.

Even if it became transparent and traditional that an NXT wrestler is getting their PLE debut and then receives a big push on the main roster, if done well, it can help the wrestler, Evolution, the main roster, and perceptions of NXT. Similarly, using the platform to even highlight on the preshow WWE ID or Evolve talent could help the company in mythologizing the narrative of WWE’s ability to make stars.

All of this is helped by utilizing one PLE.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on the WWE Evolution and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
