His TNA run was stained with injuries that prevented him from showing the powerful wrestler he is. His TNA path was made of only 21 matches, starting with a legendary series of matches against Josh Alexander and ending soon as he had one last match against Joe Hendry that hasn’t been aired yet.

It would be hard to say what went wrong between TNA and Hammerstone. Hammerstone said he was only injured once. And if you look closely, you can see he was wrestling even when he was said to be injured.

Well, now Alex Hammerstone is a healthy free agent. The question now is, where is he going to go?

Wherever he chooses to go, Alex Hammerstone has a unique ability to adapt to the company and its roster. The man may be a freak of nature, but there’s no company he couldn’t call his home, as long as the company can understand the extent of his potential and give him a chance to push himself in order to push the company to new limits.

Based on what we watched from him in TNA (read here what we thought of him 2 years ago), let’s see where he could fit perfectly.

PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT ALL MY “INJURIES” THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

Thank you.

    Sincerely, perfectly healthy me. pic.twitter.com/oiJVbf5Lix

— Hammerstone (@alexhammerstone) March 7, 2025

Alex Hammerstone to AEW

One reason that could bring Hammerstone to AEW is his good friend Brian Cage. As he was telling 3W-Wrestling, Brian Cage is a man he likes to be compared to. “I’m a good fan of him. I’ll never hate to be compared to him. I think we fall into a similar space where we’re both very obviously, big muscles, muscular and posy figures, but when we get in a ring, we maybe pull off some stuff that may be not so typical of what you’d expect from a guy who looks the way we do.”

Powerhouse Hobbs, Big Bill, EJ Nduka, or Bobby Lashley could also be perfect opponents for Hammerstone in a powerhouse-versus-powerhouse situation. His TNA trilogy of matches against Josh Alexander showed the world that Hammerstone could wrestle anyone. He can adapt to his opponent’s style, push him to his limits, play mindgames with him.

Hammerstone could find a vast array of wrestlers to compete against. Think Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley, and why not Brian Cage.

Hammerstone to NXT

In September 2024, Hammerstone had his first NXT match against Tony D’Angelo, but the match ended in controversy when D’Angelo walked out, leading to a count-out victory for Hammerstone. Everyone who watched the match thought Hammerstone was made for WWE/NXT.

The company has a long history of winning powerhouses. Think Lex Luger, Ravishing Rick Rude, and more recently Bron Breakker or Oba Femi. If there’s a place that can understand what Hammerstone is about, WWE/NXT is probably the right place.

Even if Hammerstone had three tryouts and failed to sign, they know how to show up their “big men” the right way. On TNA, he took part in an Ultimate-X match at Emergence 2024, showing that being big doesn’t mean you’re not good when it comes to climbing.

Once again, whether in WWE or NXT, the man fits many molds and could have dream matches against a lot of talents. Think Karrion Kross, Bron Breakker in the main roster, or Oba Femi, Lexis King, Ethan Page in NXT.

.@alexhammerstone claims a controversial victory on #WWENXT! https://t.co/WWkhN4Bft1

— TNA Wrestling (@ThisIsTNA) September 18, 2024

Back to MLW

Since Hammerstone, MJF, and Jacob Fatu left, MLW has been in a complete whirlwind. The landscape of the promotion has completely changed.

MLL talents and Deathmatch wrestlers are working with talents like Matt Riddle, Krule, Alex Kane, Bobby Fish, Kenta, or Satoshi Kojima. If Hammerstone remains an 854-day MLW National Openweight Champion, both the man and the company have changed.

In TNA, Hammerstone had 2 nice matches against Eric Young, a TNA original and a “classic” wrestler. In MLW, Hammerstone could find someone like Bobby Fish to offer a fight of the same quality as with Young. Seeing him cross the line and compete in the dark side of deathmatch would be very interesting, against someone like AKIRA.

Hammerstone and Krule already had a big fight 4 years ago, a very brutal one. They could easily revive it.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header image credit – TNA Wrestling – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on TNA, Alex Hammerstone, and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
