But few saw a resurgence for one tag team on the cards. The resident WWE SmackDown Brits, Pretty Deadly, have maximized the impact of their minutes this side of the Netflix era.

The two-time NXT Tag Team Champions have been on the blue brand since the 2023 WWE Draft. The highlight of their Smackdown tenure thus far was a title challenge against then-champions Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in front of a home crowd in London. Sadly, that booster failed to provide the required momentum.

Since then, opportunities have been limited for Kit Wilson and Elton Prince. The arrivals of the Motor City Machine Guns, as well as Bloodline reinforcements in Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa, might have hinted that Pretty Deadly was set to be released.

Last week’s episode of Smackdown, however, suggests further red-letter days for Pretty Deadly.

Pretty Deadly, Pretty Savvy, and Pretty Convincing…

A shock win over Tag Team Champions DIY earned Pretty Deadly No.1 contender status. It is a story of allies to enemies, as Pretty Deadly finally realized that their alliance with DIY was only serving Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.

Wilson and Prince’s interventions have been key to DIY’s title reign remaining intact. And the alliance made sense as long as Pretty Deadly were rightly rewarded with a title shot of their own. But thus far, DIY have not delivered on their side of the deal. Now adopting a tweener status, Pretty Deadly’s narrative has taken on an intriguingly complex hue.

Pretty Deadly Resurgence = Catalyst for Competition

With the alliance severed, it leaves the division’s five central tag teams in a state of animosity and intense competition. Pretty Deadly is firmly in the tag title conversation with DIY and MCMG. But the Street Profits and Los Garza aren’t to be underestimated; they continue to leave their rivals glancing nervously over their shoulders. Excitingly, this is something the WWE Universe hasn’t seen for quite some time.

Pretty Deadly, a team often mocked and derided for their flamboyance, has been encouraged by this pivot. Disrupting the momentum of MCMG and DIY has elevated Pretty Deadly from mere comic relief to viable contenders.

And it’s healthy for the remainder of the tag team division too. The Street Profits’ heel turn has given them an extra dimension, and Los Garza has shown that they aren’t just extra muscle for Santos Escobar. It’s not just about DIY and MCMG anymore. The chasing pack is closer than they’ve ever been before.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
