Promoted to CCO IN 2022, he continues to influence the direction of WWE today. The 2022-2024 classes have seen between five and seven wrestlers inducted, and currently, there is no indication that this will change.

As a superstar whose legacy encompasses the past four decades, there is the opportunity to induct superstars inherently connected to the Cerebral Assassin’s story. But there are also a few candidates who should be considered for timeliness but also, as The Undertaker put it, for being long overdue.

Batista

Batista initially declined his induction after being announced for the WWE Hall of Fame at the beginning of 2020. He cited the lack of fans due to the pandemic as his reason. Batista was in discussion for his induction in 2023, too, but again, he had to decline due to filming schedule conflicts. Batista and Triple H were famously a part of the Evolution stable.

An iconic and dominant group during the early 2000s, Evolution provided breakthroughs for Batista and Randy Orton, as well as increasing the stock of Triple H and Ric Flair. After recent declines, it would be a great moment to see Batista inducted alongside Triple H.

Sabu

Last week, Sabu announced his retirement match at GCW on April 18th – the same weekend as Wrestlemania. Sabu remains synonymous with ECW, both as an independent promotion and under its WWE rebrand.

Few wrestling fans can forget his memorable table spot with Rey Mysterio at ECW One Night Stand. With the stars in alignment, WWE would be foolish not to cash in on Sabu’s retirement as a prime opportunity for induction.

Jim Johnston

A superstar’s persona often begins with an iconic entrance song. And Jim Johnston has contributed more iconic theme songs than any other composer in WWE history.

The Deadman’s theme, Eddie Guerrero’s ‘Viva la Raza’, Randy Orton’s ‘Voices’, and even Triple H’s ‘The Game’ are all gems in Johnston’s sprawling repertoire. Released in 2017, WWE has yet to reach out to Johnston for induction. A sorely unsung hero of various WWE eras, Johnston deserves his spot.

Mickie James

With the new WWE/TNA partnership in full motion, what better way to celebrate this collaboration than by honoring Mickie James? As an 11-time WWE/TNA world champion, James is one of the most decorated female wrestlers of all time.

As OVW’s Creative Director and as a mentor on the upcoming series WWE LFG, James continues to nurture new talent beyond her career. If there’s a female wrestler overdue HoF status, it’s Mickie James.

Giant Baba

The Hall of Fame has never been shy about honoring Japanese talent, having inducted Bull Nakano and The Great Muta in 2024 and 2023, respectively. The likes of Jushin Thunder Liger, Hiro Matsuda, and Rikidōzan have also achieved HoF status. Trained by Rikidōzan himself, Giant Baba might be the perfect candidate to continue the celebration of Japanese talent.

Baba, the soul of AJPW, from its inception in 1972 to his death in 1999, was a figure of national significance in Japanese professional wrestling. With almost 6,000 matches to his name, Baba deserves an induction for a life devoted to professional wrestling alone.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – TNA Wrestling – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
