Well, the company is back at it again in January with the second edition of the returned classic. And much like the first show, Saturday Night’s Main Event card for this month is already shaping up to be fantastic.

In less than two weeks, WWE will hold its second Saturday Night’s Main Event since the marquee returned for the first time in 16 years last month. That card featured Drew McIntyre vs Sami Zayn, Liv Morgan vs IYO Sky in a Women’s World Championship match, Gunther vs Damian Priest vs Finn Balor in a triple threat for the World Heavyweight Championship, Chelsea Green vs Michin in the first-ever Women’s United States Championship final, and Cody Rhodes vs Kevin Owens for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

SNME has a history of hosting big-time matches and it seems this edition will be more of the same. After that first card, WWE is doubling down, already planning another top-notch Saturday Night’s Main Event card for NBC on January 25th.

WWE Announces Two Title Matches for Saturday Night’s Main Event Card

Monday Night Raw featured some great moments including the debut of Penta, the culmination of a bitter rivalry between Priest and Balor, the crowning of the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion, and much more. During the show, matches were announced for next Monday as well as for SNME, less than two weeks from now.

Jey Uso Steps up to Gunther for a Shot at the World Heavyweight Championship

Early in the night, Gunther hit the ring to talk about how no one is on his level and how he was disappointed by the quality of wrestlers WWE showcased on Raw’s debut, wrestlers that included CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and Roman Reigns just to name a few. Gunther lamented that everyone was focused on who was the Head of the Table or who was the Best in the World when they should be focused on the only title that mattered, the one around his waist.

Cue the yeeting as Jey Uso, another one of those wrestlers who took part in the Netflix debut show, arrived to challenge Gunther for the title on Saturday Night. Gunther laughed Uso off, saying he was funny and entertaining but he’d be exposed if he faced Gunther as nothing more than a really good tag team wrestler. Gunther said he’d take the match but it was Uso’s choice. Before Gunther could leave, Uso acknowledged it was going to be a tough fight as he had lost to Gunther twice before for the Intercontinental Championship, but he was betting on himself these days and betting he was going to defeat Gunther. Gunther chuckled as he left the arena and later in the night, the match was made official. It will be Jey Uso vs Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship on the Saturday Night’s Main Event card.

Bron Breakker Puts his Intercontinental Championship on the Line Against Sheamus

Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser continued their recent feud as Bron Breakker watched from the stands, Intercontinental Championship slung over his shoulder. As the match went on and Sheamus and Kaiser beat the daylights out of each other, cameras occasionally panned to Breakker as commentary noted one of these men could be his next challenger. Both had previously fallen short against Breakker, most recently at the same time in a triple-threat match at Survivor Series.

After Sheamus emerged victorious over Kaiser, he and Breakker had a confrontation ringside. Later in the night, it was announced that Breakker would defend his title against Sheamus for the third time in just over two months on Saturday Night’s Main Event card. In the first meeting, it was just the two men, with Breakker winning thanks to a DQ. Sheamus has said he’s here to elevate the next generation and what better way to do that than to show them he’s still got a lot of gas left in the tank.

About Last Word on Pro Wrestling

Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on Saturday Night’s Main Event card and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
