Most burning not all that far from the location of tonight’s Raw. Punk implored those who could help to do so as WWE shared calls to action from the American Red Cross. With that message shared, Punk moved on to the business of the night.

Punk opened up by saying Seth Rollins was in his rearview mirror and now, he had bigger things to focus on. Namely, one of his lifelong dreams, winning the Royal Rumble and main eventing WrestleMania. After some tongue-in-cheek references to John Cena declaring for the rumble, Punk reminded the fans he too was entering and when he won they would play his music…only, a different sound emanated from gorilla, causing Punk to audibly sigh.

Seth Rollins made his entrance, telling Punk he said he’d be in this ring win, lose, or draw, and he was a man of his word, unlike some people. Who would he be if he hid when the going got tough? Oh, he’d be like Punk, a man who even on his worst day Rollins never wanted to be. Punk continued to taunt him about the win last week before Rollins returned the favor saying he was so disappointed in himself and called it the worst loss of his career. So the only way to avenge that loss was to keep Punk from his dream. Rollins promised to ruin Punk’s dreams by throwing him over the top rope and taking the rumble win for himself.

Cue yet another interruption, much to Punk’s dismay. Drew McIntyre appeared to call Rollins selfish. Though Punk thought he was talking about him, leading McIntyre to clarify that not everything was about ‘Phil.’ McIntyre told Rollins to look in a mirror, because he and Punk were more alike than he wanted to admit. The only difference was Punk admitted to being a piece of crap and Rollins always thought he was the good guy instead. Rollins is all talk and no action, backing down from the fight against Roman Reigns, who Rollins was vocal about stopping. But when push came to shove, it was up to McIntyre to be the reluctant hero stepping up for the locker room. Reigns is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers so McIntyre’s only checkmate is to get his hands on the title before Reings does. He too, officially declared for the rumble.

Rollins and McIntyre join Punk, Cena, LA Knight, and Jey Uso in having declared for the rumble.

Chad Gable vs Penta

The Penta Era has begun in San Jose.

Chad Gable entered the ring to ‘You Suck’ chants, quite fitting for the man who has taken it upon himself to look, act, and wrestle like Kurt Angle. From one Olympian to another, Gable is set for his best year ever in 2025. As he told fans, he’s got a bucket list and he’s already checked off one item: ending Alpha Academy. Tonight, was a second item, beating the luchador he told Adam Pearce to offer up to him. Gable promised this was the year he wins a singles championship and that all begins tonight. So, cue the music and bring out his opponent…

The lights went out and the name everyone expected came up on the screens. Still, what a huge pop for the man Michael Cole described as, “the worst kept secret.” Penta came in amped and ready to go and Gable was the perfect dance partner. The two put on a fantastic match, complete with near falls and an incredibly fast pace throughout. Save for a few hiccups at the beginning, Penta looked great. In a hot finish that kicked off with Gable kicking out of a seamless Running Mexican Destroyer, Penta turned to his roots and performed The Sacrifice before hitting his Penta Driver for the win. In victory, Penta looked fantastic where everything he did received a huge pop. But in a loss, Gable didn’t lose any shine either. Matched up against Penta, Gable got to show he is more than capable of achieving his goals in 2025. The two received a “This is Awesome” chant and both left having put on a memorable show for the crowd.

Following the match, Penta cut a short promo, including a portion entirely in Spanish which was hugely over with the crowd. He thanked San Jose and told fans as much as they wanted him to be here, he’s wanted to be here as well. So yes this is a new era for WWE but it is also a new era for Netflix, and more importantly, the new era of Penta.

Judgment Day is Fine…

Oh, poor, naive, to quote Michael Cole, “Dumbass Dom”…

Backstage, Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Carlito were seen chatting before Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez interrupted. It was clear there was tension between Balor and Morgan as Balor teased they were just talking about how Morgan would get the title back. They weren’t, but she didn’t know that. Talk then turned to Dominik Mysterio, who stood with flowers in an attempt to apologize for his actions last week. Morgan claimed no apology was needed and she wasn’t mad before she told her lapdog to get her bags and make sure the car was waiting for them at the end of the night. She then threw the flowers to Carlito, he tossed them back to Mysterio before leaving with McDonagh to talk to Pearce about getting him and Balor another shot at the tag team titles. Mysterio was happy Morgan wasn’t mad, clearly missing the subtext that Balor was well aware of. Mysterio asked Balor if he needed him to accompany him for his match against Priest but Balor suggested Mysterio focus on Morgan instead. It was clear Balor saw Mysterio as a liability.

Sheamus vs Ludwig Kaiser

Sheamus isn’t done yet.

Sheamus has made clear that at this stage of his career, he’s looking to get the best out of the young guys whose names are only just starting to be called. But that doesn’t mean that Sheamus will be an easy out. Quite the opposite. The cameras panned to show Daniel Cormier in attendance along with Bron Breakker, who was watching carefully to see who his next opponent might be.

The match began and was a physical, violent affair as advertised. The two went at each other and by the end of the match, both men had bright red chests. The action included stiff kicks, chops, and brutal moves that saw things explode from the ring to the floor. Ludwig Kaiser took a moment to mock the fans and Sheamus and it led to his downfall as all it took was one Brogue later before it was all over. Sheamus took the win and after the match had a bit of a confrontation with Breakker. Who’s next? Sheamus is next and it seems he very much is eying up Breakker’s title.

What’s Next for Sami Zayn

Backstage, Seth Rollins was being interviewed by Cathy Kelley where its revealed that Rollins has asked for and been granted, a match with Drew McIntyre next week. Rollins is hoping to return the favor to McIntyre and get his win back from WrestleMania. Rollins begins walking away only to run into Sami Zayn and its tense. Zayn offers Rollins a listening ear but Rollins laughs it off saying that while it was a bad week for him, it was a great week for Zayn. Zayn seems confused so Rollins elaborates. Rollins says Zayn’s boy won and he helped him do it, just like he did at War Games, and just like he’s going to keep doing. Rollins asks Zayn if he’s going to keep helping Roman Reigns or if he’s finally going to help himself. Zayn looks reflective as Rollins leaves. Clearly, he’s got some decisions to make regarding the Bloodline.

After a short Judgment Day promo where McDonagh and Carlito try to tell people Judgment Day is fine, we see Karrion Kross and the Miz backstage lamenting the move of the Wyatt Sicks to SmackDown. This means they can’t get their hands on them. Kross threatens if Miz had anything to do with it, but they are interrupted as Zayn shows up looking for Pearce. Kross laughs at Zayn’s predicament saying his alliances are falling apart and what’s going to happen if he wins? Miz jokes with Kross they don’t have to worry about Zayn ever winning anything. Zayn steps up to Miz and tells him ever since he’s been Kross’ lackey, no one thinks of him ever. Miz reminds Zayn he’s a two-time world champion, which is two more than Zayn will ever see. That does it. Zayn tells Miz he has other business to talk to Pearce about but that can wait, he’s instead going to ask him for a singles match between him and Miz tonight. Miz laments them having to deal with Zayn but Kross laughs and tells Miz, there is no we in this situation. Miz once again writing checks with his mouth that he may or may not be able to cash.

No One is on Gunther’s Level but Jey Uso Wants to be

There may not be a more well-deserved confidence and swagger among a champion, than that of Gunther. The world champ entered the arena pointing out how he was impressed by WWE’s production on Netflix but what he wasn’t impressed by was the quality of the matches. Gunther suggests the level of competition in the company is not to his level before lamenting how people are competing for who is Head of the Table or who is Best in the World when the only thing that matters is the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist. It is the only prize worth fighting for and if only someone in the back could hold a candle to him…

Right one cue, Jey Uso’s music hits and the crowd go wild. Pat McAfee once again yeets on the desk but Cole decides only to yeet at his seat saying last week was a one-time thing. His loss. After the meeting commences, Uso claims he’s put McIntyre behind him, his put his family drama behind him, and now he’s focused on the world title and taking it off Gunther’s shoulder. Gunther seems unsure Uso is serious. After all, how could he be as Gunther already beat him twice when he held the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther says Uso is naive if he thinks he can beat him. He’s funny, he’s entertaining, but when it comes to wrestling, Gunther promises to expose him for what he truly is. A really, really talented…tag team wrestler. The burn stings, but Gunther reminds Uso that while ‘Main Event’ may be his nickname, it’s Gunther’s rightful place. And sure, Uso can challenge him at Saturday Night’s Main Event, if he really wants.

Gunther goes to leave but Uso picks up the mic and stops him. He tells Gunther he’s heard it all before. That he’s not good enough, that he’s not supposed to be here. But he’s just out here trying to earn that respect. Uso admits Gunther is better, and maybe he is just a tag team wrestler, but he’s a tag team wrestler who’s going into SNME betting on himself. Uso promises to beat Gunther, who just chuckles as he leaves. These two are gonna put on a show.

“Michael Cole’s an Idiot on 3…”

After a great video package hyping up the Women’s Intercontinental Championship final, Bayley is shown in the crowd and receives a huge pop from her hometown. Bayley raves about Penta before being asked about the match and to offer a prediction. Bayley puts both women over and comments on Dakota Kai’s talent as a reason why she chose her to be part of Damage CNTRL in the first place. Bayley is then asked about Michael Cole, who she calls an idiot before apologizing to McAfee for having to sit next to him. Bayley then tells Cole its her hometown so he has to say nice things about her to which he does not. So Bayley tells the San Jose crowd to give her a “Michael Cole’s an idiot on 3.” 1…2…they deliver spectacularly.

Women’s Intercontinental Championship – Lyra Valkyria vs Dakota Kai

Both women enter triumphantly ready for the moment. In the early going of the match, the action is fairly paced with each woman trying to outmaneuver the other. Neither really gets the upper hand until they move to the apron where Valkyria hits a huge suplex off the ropes. After that, the action picks up with both women getting some spots to showcase their skills. The finish is fast with Valkyria rolling out of the ring after a would-be pinfall only to have Kai miss a second kick. Valkyria takes advantage, hitting her own finisher for the 1…2…3.

Lyra Valkyria is your new, and first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion!

After the match, the two women shake hands and show respect to each other. If this is a sign of what kind of matches this title will bring, the future is bright for WWE’s midcard women’s division.

New…Day Sucks

Once again, we see Cathy Kelley trying to interview the New Day. Kelley wants to know when they’ll be back in the ring but the two claim they need to address Rey Mysterio kicking them out of the locker room first. They call Mysterio a deadbeat dad who raised a crappy son. Not wrong on that second part. They promise they’ll be back in action next week but before Kelley can ask a follow-up question, the New Day return the favor from last week telling her, sorry, they’ve run out of time. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods continue to show whether heel or face, New Day still has plenty of mileage left in the tank.

Sami Zayn vs The Miz

The Miz enters first, not to much fanfare. But the crowd is hot for Zayn, who starts out strong. Miz temporarily gets the upper hand, playing to the crowd, but his time on top doesn’t last long as the crowd stays behind Zayn and revs him up. Zayn doesn’t waste much time before hitting Miz with the Helluva Kick and then Blue Thunder Bomb. This match was short, sweet, and to the point. Miz didn’t need the win and Zayn looks good making quick work of his rival. To repeat from earlier, Zayn has a decision to make when it comes to the Bloodline…

Allow Him to Re-Introduce Himself…

The Logan Paul vignettes continue. Rhea Ripley kicked it off, receiving loud applause from the crowd as she exclaimed ‘Mami is back on top.’ But Ripley didn’t have much time to bask in her victory as seemingly out of nowhere, Nia Jax’ music hit. Jax was booed heavily as she announced she spoke to Pearce about the transfer window and is here to win the Royal Rumble. I guess that means she officially declared herself? It was hard to tell amid the boos. Anyway, she insulted San Jose and Bayley, who came to the ring to defend her city. Thsi led to a brawl with Ripley and Bayley easily getting rid of Jax. Jax ran away as commentary made clear it’s not certain she’s headed to Raw. As the segment ended, Ripley celebrated as the cameras caught Bayley maybe looking just a little too long at the title that lay on the mat. It seems this whole segment was about setting up as Bayley as Ripley’s next challenger but time will tell.

The Main Event: Finn Balor vs Damian Priest

If it wasn’t clear before, it’s clear now. There is NO love lost between Damian Priest and Finn Balor. None. It takes a lot for a man to drag his neck brace former friend into the ring just to dole out more punishment….but that’s getting ahead of ourselves.

After a video package aired showing the bad blood between the two, Priest entered with a kendo stick. As Balor’s music hit, he wasn’t at the entrance ramp, instead, he pulled a surprise attack behind Priest with a kendo stick of his own. The action remained heated and violent from the jump as no sooner had the crowd shouted for tables, that they got them. First came in the form of the “newly re-inforced announce desk,” as Cole noted. Well, it held up as Balor took a hard hit into it. Priest then pulled out a second table but didn’t get to use it as the brawling moved into the crowd. At this point, Cole noted this was the game seven for these two men, with their head-to-head being tied at three wins apiece. Truly, whoever won this one, would end things once and for all. And that’s exactly what Priest sought to do as he hit Balor with the Broken Arrow from at least 10 feet in the air off an overhang. This gave both men a chance to re-cooperate a bit. Priest headed back to the ring but it seemed the match might be over as Balor was put on a stretcher and wheeled to the entrance ramp. But of course, this wasn’t a real injury as Priest proceeded to continue beating down Balor before ultimately rolling him and the stretcher he rode in on, back to the ring. It was a great moment and one that only further highlighted the animosity between these two.

As Balor was being placed on the stretcher, however, McDonagh and Carlito ran to his aid. And it being a street fight, there was nothing the referee could do to stop the numbers advantage. He couldn’t, but the War Raiders could. The tag champs ran off McDonagh and Carlito leaving just Balor and Priest to finish things off. The chairs came out, with some pretty strong visuals as Balor continued to push one against Priest’s throat despite his obvious discomfort. The tables were used as well as Balor put Priest through one with a double stomp only for Priest to return the favor hitting Balor through a table with the Razor’s Edge. Priest pulled down the straps and hit the South of Heaven.

Commentary made clear this was the end of the rivalry for these two men and they went out with a bang. Priest ended with the prophetic words, “I am not my brother’s keeper,” before walking away. And with about 30 minutes to spare on the 11PM curfew, this one was over.

That does it for this week’s Raw.
