Maximum Carnage provokes the expectation of destruction and chaos turned all the way up to eleven.

The set-up and treatment of the AEW World Championship number one contender, Powerhouse Hobbs, suggests that Jon Moxley is about to be manhandled. Hobbs has been shot, stabbed, and wants vengeance after he was injured in a match against Moxley for the IWGP World Championship last year.

It’s a unique prospect for the leader of The Death Riders. Moxley’s history with Hobbs runs deep, back to the Pandemic days of AEW.

The role in which the champion’s faction mates play in this match is debatable. Yet, with Cope and FTR also gunning for The Death Riders, the carnage will extend itself beyond the confines of the ring.

With the addition of trios action and the in-ring debut of MVP alongside his Hurt Syndicate brothers also, bodies are going to fly across the card. Blood might rain on Wednesday and then pour on Saturday.

But you know what they say: no pain, no reign.

AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage Announced Card:

Trios: Private Party and Mark Briscoe vs. Hurt Syndicate

Women’s Casino Gauntlet match- the winner receives a championship shot for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Grand Slam.

Christian Cage vs. HOOK

Brian Cage vs. Kenny Omega

AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley vs. Powerhouse Hobbs

AEW Women’s Casino Gauntlet Match:

Before its first birthday, this match concept receives its sixth edition. While last week’s casino gauntlet was serviceable fun, this week’s version will have the potential of novelty and fresh possibilities.

AEW’s booking of its women is a subject plenty have discussed, including me on multiple occasions (a history of revolutions, the persistent issue). Restricted to one Dynamite match a week, the depth and skills of the women are hampered despite their talent.

So, seeing the women get their opportunity in a layered multi-woman match like this has high expectations. Especially with the potential for revisiting old stories, continuing current threads, and starting new feuds.

Kris Statlander has guaranteed herself the number one spot. We know Willow Nightingale and Toni Storm could also be involved. Each of these women has a viable chance to face Mariah May at Grand Slam.

While “rookie” Toni Storm might be the underdog favorite, we can’t rule out the possibility that someone else may win. Her current amnesia storyline could continue for longer. Even before the result, sit back and watch the chaos.

Let’s see if there are any surprises with new or old faces debuting/returning. Enjoy what the division is capable of.

Kenny Omega’s Return Match For AEW

Kenny Omega’s return to an AEW ring was always going to create buzz and stir the pot for others. This upcoming match with Brian Cage is a personal dream match for the latter. It’s one of the reasons why he signed with AEW.

It’s machine versus the best bout machine. This is a clash of terminators. There are few doubts this match will be explosive, dynamic, and a masterclass from both men.

Even if the result is not in doubt. Brian Cage paradoxically gets overlooked as one of the best wrestlers in AEW and, likewise, remains a figure some believe deserves more.

Omega might clean up and grab the victory but this match and brawl last week with The Don Callis Family lays the groundwork for the future. While a continuation of a feud from The Elite’s “putrid” 2023, some might see this as a step backward.

Yet, a lot has changed in that time. For starters, the prospect of Kyle Fletcher vs. Kenny Omega is a PPV-quality match. Omega taking on Konosuke Takeshita again, with the latter going for the third win over the GOAT, could be career-defining.

We could see a team-up with Will Ospreay. Or, as Omega’s return speech hinted with his talk of not seeking revenge, could we see The Young Bucks or Hangman Page return to the fold? This match is where the road could unfold to some exhilarating destinations.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – AEW – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
