John Cena returned to WWE with a plan: enter and win the Royal Rumble.<\/p>\n

Following the tribal combat match, Cena entered to tremendous applause, adoration, and a drone show outside of the Intuit Dome. He thanked the fans, talked about how important California was to his career, and addressed the speculation surrounding his retirement. Cena talked about the final opponents people have dreamed up for him, pausing to acknowledge names like Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes<\/a>, and CM Punk, which arguably got the biggest reaction of the list.<\/p>\n

But it was the next topic Cena addressed that got everyone talking. Cena talked about “the streak.” Not the Undertaker’s streak, not Gunther’s streak, not Reign’s streak. No, it was a streak of his own. A streak of over 1,000 days since he last won the WWE Championship. Cena referenced that streak when addressing one of the biggest questions fans have been asking since his announced retirement: “Will he win a record 17th world championship title<\/a>?”<\/p>\n

“It’s never going to happen,” Cena told the disappointed crowd before pausing and saying to “never say never.” Cena then said it would “take a miracle” before cheekily suggesting an idea. Originally, Cena told the fans he was just going to show up at the Royal Rumble and do his thing, but it’s his last rumble, there is no tomorrow. Cena acknowledged he can’t just walk into the main event of WrestleMania 41, can’t just show up and get a shot at that 17th title, but if he wins the Royal Rumble…<\/p>\n

Fans speculated, but Cena seems to have confirmed what might be one of his final arcs on his retirement tour. Enter the rumble, presumably at I don’t know, lucky No. 27<\/a>, win the rumble (which would tie him with Steve Austin for most rumble wins of all-time), go on to main event WrestleMania against one of the two champions, and cement his legacy as the top champion of all-time. Sounds simple, right? Hard to script a better end for one of the greatest of all time.<\/p>\n
