The Christmas season is upon us, and with it comes every special that one can think of for those looking to capitalize. Anything that can be turned into a Christmas theme is turned. WWE is not different in this market as they use a classic holiday movie to highlight a gimmick match. The WWE Miracle on 34th Street Fight is a staple of holiday programming. It’s a great chance for WWE to put on an easy match to book and dress the ring up in all the holiday decorations that one can think of.

The match has become endearing to the audience; there have been some fantastic matches throughout the years. These are those matches.

Dean Ambrose vs Bray Wyatt (Raw, December 2014)

The issues between Bray Wyatt and Deam Ambrose have been well documented. They have competed in just about every gimmick match imaginable. With their chemistry and penchant for violence, they made every match great, and their Miracle on 34th Street Fight was no different.

Wyatt and Ambrose didn’t hold back during their match. Every weapon from tables to chairs, ladders and kendo sticks was used to inflict as much pain as possible. Most of these Christmas-themed contests are more toned down than other street fights, but not this one.

This was as brutal as any that had come before it.

Of course, there was a vast array of Christmas-themed obstacles that were used as weapons. They served as a humorous aside from the beatings that either man took. They were used in interesting ways, and the obligatory candy cane kendo stick was a nice touch.

This is a must-watch if one were to want some Christmas-themed beatings.

John Cena vs Alberto Del Rio (Raw, December 2012)

John Cena and Alberto Del Rio were the epitome of the holiday hero and villain. Del Rio was the Grinch, and Cena was Santa. Simplified, yes, but at the time, they were the embodiment of those auras and provided a great backdrop for a Miracle on 34th Street Fight.

As with most matches, this one involved a lot of Christmas-themed weapons and decorations for the two men to use on one another.

The pie in Rodriguez’s face, the constant search to see what weapon was inside, and the bowling ball in the groin area of Del Rio were fantastic highlights of the match.

There was some great action, great brawling, and a very memorable appearance by Santa Foley to tip the scales in the direction of John Cena. It was a wonderfully themed street fight that made me understand the assignment.

Mark Henry vs Damien Sandow (Raw, December 2013)

This could be considered cheating because this match didn’t have the Miracle on 34th Street Fight moniker. However, it did include the same rules and two Santas battling it out, so it’s going to make it on this list.

The dynamic of Good Santa and Bad Santa was hilarious here. They borrowed from a movie slightly, but Sandow was perfect in the role. The two Santas were a great visual, with Mark Henry dolling out most of the season’s beatings.

They played all the hits, going through presents and using Christmas-themed weapons. It was very entertaining for what it needed to be.

It can’t be said enough how great Sandow was here. His desire to destroy all things Christmas added some extra heat to the match. There wasn’t a heel on the roster who could have played the smug character the way Sandow did.

Drew McIntyre & The New Day vs Madcap Moss & The Usos (SmackDown, December 2021)

These street fights don’t need to follow an angle or have some huge build-up heading into them. All they need to do is put some great wrestlers in the ring and see how much fun they can have. It is for this reason that this 6-man Tag Team match is on the list.

This match was all about being as entertaining as possible. It started as a usual tag match but quickly devolved into all-out madness.

It was a tale of two stories as the Usos & the New Day spent most of the match on the outside, while Moss and McIntyre had a tight little match between the ropes. Your usual Christmas gimmicks were used throughout, but the addition of the eggnog and cookies was a nice touch.

They were used quite well and added a bit more Christmas cheer to the match.

There wasn’t anything about this match that wasn’t fun. It was a perfect match for a Christmas edition of Smackdown, and it made the kids happy to go to bed.

Braun Strowman & Ricochet vs Imperium (SmackDown, December 2022)

Imperium was the perfect type of Scrooge character to play the villains for this match. The crowd hated them immensely and was cheering against them with every offensive move.

Ricochet and Braun Strowman were a tag team that didn’t get the push that they should have. They had chemistry by the ton, and they worked very well against other tag teams, especially against the high-nosed Imperium.

These teams put on a street fight together that was a ton of fun to watch. Imperium tried to separate Ricochet and Strowman, and it worked to their advantage for a while. Ricochet was absent for portions of the match as Strowman took the fight to ringside.

There, as per usual, Christmas decorations and various weapons made their way into the match. It was par for the course.

What separates this from others is the hilarious inclusion of a ballerina and two nutcrackers in presents. The ballerina was great but paled in comparison to the New Day coming out and showing why they were dressed as nutcrackers.

It added a great layer of comedy to a match that needed it.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
