We are only a few short weeks away from one of the most popular PLEs on the WWE schedule. The Royal Rumble, specifically the match itself, has been one of WWE’s greatest creations.

It combines fast-paced action and shocking surprises and has produced the best moments in company history. There is not a person around who isn’t excited about February 1st. One of the biggest talking points heading into the Royal Rumble is who will walk away with the wins.

Two huge matches on the horizon have long-ranging implications for WWE. They will be the ones to walk into Wrestlemania and try and achieve their dream. Let’s look at who may have the edge walking into the Royal Rumble.

CM Punk

CM Punk has been at the forefront of WWE since his return. His first big match after his return was in the Royal Rumble, where he came just a hair shy of taking away the victory.

Since then, he has been involved in a fantastic program opposite Drew McIntyre and teamed with the OG Bloodline to snuff out the Bloodline 2.0. They have both been great stories but we are all waiting for him to get to the main event of WrestleMania, a place that he had never been to before.

His easiest path to WrestleMania would be winning the Royal Rumble. Punk has to be one of the favorites going in, as it would complete his story and give him that one thing, he so desperately desires.

Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair has been out for over a year now. Tearing her ACL, MCL, and meniscus was a huge blow to The Queen and derailed any plans she had of capturing another world championship.

Charlotte has been seen working out at the Performance Center, so she is preparing for a return. She would be a great surprise at the Royal Rumble but she wouldn’t be there just to get a pop.

The Queen winning the whole darn thing would be a fantastic story. She would get a huge reaction from the crowd, and it would thrust her right back into the championship picture. Thus, giving her a chance to capture what she holds dearer than anything.

Roman Reigns

There has been no one more dominant over the past decade than Roman Reigns. His championship run was fantastic but it has kept him from appearing in the Royal Rumble match for quite some time.

Reigns would be a logical choice to win the Royal Rumble. His history in the match, winning once and being a runner-up four times, shows that he has a great chance of winning. He is also starved to wear the Heavyweight Championship once again.

Rhea Ripley

Rhea Ripley has been on a mission since her return to WWE. She was a dominant Women’s Champion but, when injury struck, she vacated the championship only to see her rival Liv Morgan win the strap. When Ripley got her chance, it took the betrayal of Dominik Mysterio to keep the championship around Morgan’s waist.

Morgan has ducked Ripley at every opportunity but a Royal Rumble win would give Morgan no choice but to meet Ripley in the ring. It would be a great win for Ripley, and it would be the culmination of a nearly year-long program. Also, Ripley has set records in the Rumble so another win would add a huge notch to her belt.

The Rock as Royal Rumble Winner?

This is a bit of a dark horse pick, as The Rock’s plans for WrestleMania are up in the air but what a moment it would be. The Great One has a Rumble victory under his belt but it had been 24 years since that moment.

Adopting his heel Final Boss gimmick has given his character fresh legs, and the ability to do whatever he wants. He has been vocal about his want to control WWE and his past issues with Cody Rhodes have been well-documented.

The Rock has already said when he comes back, he is going for the WWE Championship. What better way to do this than by surprising the world and winning the Royal Rumble?

Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch has been absent from WWE since early summer. Rumors have been running rampant of whether she may or may not return to WWE, or venture to other organizations. There hasn’t been a ton of news on the contract front, but that could be WWE playing things close to the vest.

The Man returning and winning the Royal Rumble would be a massive deal. Her return would get a great pop, and she is the type of big name that WWE likes to have to win the Royal Rumble. She also has a history with both of the current women’s champions and it would lead to a great build towards WrestleMania.

John Cena Gets One Last Royal Rumble Moment?

The end is near for John Cena. His announcement of a retirement tour was met with disappointment but also excitement in the guise of what the leader of Cenation could accomplish on his way out of WWE. With one of the biggest being a Royal Rumble victory.

Cena is close to tying Ric Flair’s world championship record and a Royal Rumble win would be the easiest way to get that shot. He has won two Royal Rumbles already and winning a third would put him in rare territory.

Only Steve Austin has won three Royal Rumble matches and it would be another huge feather in the cap of John Cena. Also, it would lead to a dream showdown opposite Gunther or Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania.

Alexa Bliss Returns at the Royal Rumble?

The women’s field is wide open for potential winners this year. So why not have someone make their long-awaited return to take home the victory?

Alexa Bliss has been absent from WWE for close to two years now. She left on maternity leave but the itch must be getting too much for her. Her social media has contained easter eggs hinting at a potential return and the rumors have been flying around that she might be returning for WrestleMania season.

Her return has long been overdue, and it would be great to see her walk through the curtain. Even better would be seeing her win the Royal Rumble. It is an accomplishment she hasn’t attained and it would lead to a feel-good moment at WrestleMania.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo – WWE – Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling as they develop.
