After a hard-fought, physical bout with the then reigning and defending <strong>WWE<\/strong> World Heavyweight Champion\u00a0<strong>Damian Priest<\/strong>, Gunther managed to slay the dominant competitor at the &#8220;biggest part of the Summer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The match was amazing. Unfortunately, it wasn&#8217;t as clean as we wanted it to be. Priest and Gunther were in the midst of a fantastic barn-burner. But The Judgment Day, specifically <strong>Finn Balor<\/strong> was the difference-maker. However, even before that, Gunther was coming off of one of, if not the best, title reigns in WWE history. It took a defiant\u00a0<strong>Sami Zayn<\/strong>, who unfortunately l<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2024\/08\/03\/andnew-wwe-summerslam-2024-crowns-three-new-champions\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">ost the same title<\/a> he pried away from Gunther only months prior, to end the legendary reign at the &#8216;Showcase of the Immortals&#8217;\u00a0<em><strong>WrestleMania XL<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This is Gunther&#8217;s first run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Prior to this, he was the record-setting champion for\u00a0<em><strong>NXT UK<\/strong><\/em> with his 870-day reign.<\/p>\n<p>The sky is certainly the limit for Gunther. Arguably, this is the first time anyone has seen this dominance of a competitor in a long time.
