SummerSlam 2024 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>could see two superstars win their first major championships on the same night. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gunther<\/span><\/strong> battles <\/span>Damian Priest<\/span><\/strong> for the World Heavyweight Championship<\/a>. <\/span>Solo Sikoa <\/span><\/strong>looks to take the Undisputed WWE Championship <\/span><\/a>from Cody Rhodes<\/span><\/strong>, who fought long and hard to win from his cousin, <\/span>Roman Reigns<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s rare for two wrestlers to win their first major championship on the same night. It has never happened at <\/span>SummerSlam.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

If Gunther or Sikoa leaves SummerSlam<\/em> with a major WWE title, it will buck a mega trend.\u00a0<\/span>WWE SummerSlam\u00a0<\/em>airs live from Cleveland Browns Stadium on Saturday, August 3, 2024.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s <\/span>take a<\/span> look at this trend, and who they need to emulate to win their first major piece of WWE gold at <\/span>SummerSlam<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody Wins Championships At SummerSlam<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

There’s a horror trend that Gunther and Solo Sikoa won’t want to hear. Nobody wins major championships at <\/span>SummerSlam<\/span><\/em>. Or at least they don’t often. <\/span><\/p>\n

SummerSlam<\/span><\/em> first took place in 1988 but we had to wait two years for a title match <\/span>to <\/span>even take place<\/span>. The Ultimate Warrior<\/strong> retained the top prize in WWE at SummerSlam 90.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

At <\/span>SummerSlam <\/span><\/em>92, WWF Champion <\/span>Randy Savage<\/span><\/strong> lost to The Ultimate Warrior via countout but kept the title.<\/span><\/p>\n

A year later, <\/span>Lex Luger<\/span><\/strong> beat <\/span>Yokozuna<\/span><\/strong> in a WWF Championship match but <\/span>also via a countout<\/span>, so he didn\u2019t take the title. Luger celebrated like it was the closest he’d ever get to winning the WWF Championship. Turns out it was.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, even when people <\/span>do<\/span> beat the champion at <\/span>SummerSlam<\/span><\/em>, they still don\u2019t win the gold. Bad, bad news for Gunther and Sikoa. Better watch out for those 10 counts. <\/span><\/p>\n

Bret Hart<\/span><\/strong> defeated <\/span>The Undertaker<\/span><\/strong> at SummerSlam 1997, marking the first time the major championship had changed hands at the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’. But this was the fifth time Hart had won the major strap in WWE. <\/span><\/p>\n

We had to wait until the 15th SummerSlam<\/em> for a young star to use the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’ as the stage for their first major win.<\/span><\/p>\n
