It marks the first time Sawa has appeared on US soil since wrestling <strong>Daniel Bryan<\/strong> (Bryan Danielson) at <em><strong>EVOLVE 5<\/strong><\/em> in September of 2010.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/BookItGabe\/status\/952694367231315968<\/p>\n<p>Munenori Sawa was a product of <strong>Yuki Ishikawa<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Battlearts<\/strong> promotion, trained in 2002 by Ishikawa himself and debuting shortly after. Battlearts followed earlier Japanese promotions like <strong>Pancrase<\/strong> and <strong>Frontier Martial-arts Wrestling (FNW)<\/strong> in adopting more of a shoot-style MMA presentation and Sawa, like many Battlearts trainees, was also trained in MMA. Sawa wouldn&#8217;t become a full time professional wrestler until 2005, having attended <strong>UWF Snakepit Japan<\/strong> to further his grappling and MMA skills.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12371\" src=\"https:\/\/lwosonprowrestling.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/01\/MUNENORI.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/01\/MUNENORI.jpg 252w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/01\/MUNENORI-188x300.jpg 188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Upon devoting his full attention to professional wrestling, Sawa would split his time with Battlearts, <strong>Pro Wrestling ZERO-1<\/strong> and <strong>DDT Pro<\/strong>, as well as exhibition matches with the likes of <strong>NJPW, Dragon Gate<\/strong> and <strong>All-Japan<\/strong>. He would travel to the United States in 2010 to work with EVOLVE, appearing on their inaugural card, <em><strong>EVOLVE 1<\/strong><\/em>, against current WWE Superstar <strong>TJ Perkins<\/strong>, followed by his match versus Bryan Danielson at <em>EVOLVE 5<\/em>. That December, he would also take part in <strong>Fumihiko Uwai<\/strong>&#8216;s retirement night as well.
