WWE NXT\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>this week set up matches for the upcoming Halloween Havoc<\/strong><\/em> event. The aftershock from the stacked October 10 NXT<\/strong><\/em> was also felt. Several matches and segments filled the card as the superstars looked to book a spot on the two-week special. Here are the main talking points from the October 17 NXT<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Carmelo Hayes Gets Chance To Regain NXT Championship<\/h3>\n

NXT Champion, Ilja Dragunov<\/strong>, would get his number one contender as the top stars of the division met in a triple threat. Namely, the number one contendership triple threat would feature Baron Corbin<\/strong>, Dijak<\/strong>, and Carmelo Hayes<\/strong>. As if history were repeating itself, Trick Williams<\/strong> found himself inserted into this match-up, making it a fatal four-way match instead.<\/p>\n

But this time, the situation would not be as smooth sailing for Williams as his attempt to get a shot at the NXT Championship would not mirror his claim to the NXT North American Championship.<\/p>\n

Although displeased with Williams inserting himself into the match without a heads-up, Hayes and Williams seemed to iron out the issues, and all seemed to be well for ‘Trick-Melo Gang’. Before the match could get underway, Williams was attacked and deemed uncleared to be in competition, thus reverting the contendership match back to a triple threat.<\/p>\n

Though it remains unknown who attacked Williams, the answer can be expected to reveal itself soon enough. The triple threat match itself was a hard-hitting affair from all three competitors but the former champion would come out victorious in the battle, thus earning the championship match against Dragunov at week one of Halloween Havoc<\/em>.<\/p>\n
