The duo’s popularity is greater than ever, and The Usos are in the conversation for being the greatest tag team ever. From being regular features on the kickoff show to being part of the hottest storyline in the promotion, The Usos have had quite the transformation.

Day One-Ish

Having Rikishi as their father and being a part of the great Anoa’i Family, The Usos were almost certainly destined to be wrestlers. The two played competitive football in high school as well as in university, as they were growing up. It did not take too long for them to soon find themselves at Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), where they would kickstart their professional wrestling careers.

The twins had a brief stint at FCW, during which time, they held the FCW Tag Team Championships once. About six months later, they made the main roster debut, alongside Tamina. Since then, the pair have undergone several minor changes in their appearance, mannerisms, as well as their overall presentation. In 2016, as the WWE would reintroduce the WWE Draft, The Usos would undergo their biggest change yet.

Ditching the face paint and the Siva Tau, The Usos adopted a darker and more street-like aesthetic as they turned heel for the first time since 2011. This led to some great performances from the duo, even having their legendary feud with The New Day. Though they would eventually switch from heels, they had become solid fan favorites and have kept elevating multiple aspects of themselves to the point of being must-see talent beyond the tag division.

The Real Ones

The Usos are currently involved in the WWE’s biggest and most exciting storyline; The Bloodline story. The pair have elevated beyond being twins to each having an identity of their own. This has gotten wrestling fans invested as the two’s unique personalities come together to form the basis of their brotherhood. Right now, Jey Uso is the focal point of the civil war within The Bloodline but Jimmy Uso also plays an integral part in the overall story.

The biggest difference from when The Usos first made their debut to now is how they have managed to separate themselves from each other whilst also keeping the connection clear. For example, Jimmy Uso is the one who is bound to be more opinionated whereas Jey Uso often has more internal conflict. The one thing that has not changed though is how they will always choose each other above everyone else.

Though they have evolved as separate superstars, they have also done so together as a unit. Their ability to be separated and come back together without missing a step is one of the things that distinguishes the twins from their peers. Both Jimmy and Jey Uso could be considered main event superstars, and their advantage is that they have the option of doing so at both singles and tag team levels.

There was a time when it may have been a long shot to consider The Usos as more than just a top-tier tag team but, over twelve years, they have proven themselves as one of the greatest right now. That is a testament to what has been an incredible journey that wrestling fans have gotten to witness over the years.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
