Each of those stories developed the duo, but now WWE is wasting the Creed Brothers’ talent. Now, the muscle of the Diamond Mine is left with filling out multi-team matches and an ill-advised feud with Schism; which they are almost certainly set to lose. Hot prospects for a call-up going into this year’s draft, the multiple misuses of Julius and Brutus Creed can be easily summed up; they don’t belong on NXT.

The Creed Brothers Are Being Wasted in NXT

Brutus and Julius Have Nothing Left to Accomplish

In wrestling as a tag team, you only have one goal. You are laser-focused on winning the tag team titles. Unlike other promotions, WWE gives NXT superstars a secondary objective with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The Creeds have won them both over just two years. If NXT were meant to be a long-term home for talent, this would matter less. WWE could tell stories about breaking records with the titles. As the developmental brand, though, attaining all accolades quickly is less important.

With the Creed Brothers having won the titles and Dusty Classic already, their presence on NXT is no longer beneficial. Sure, WWE can find something for them to do, keeping an established act on NXT for fans. That move, though, is just the promotion missing their potential. It is WWE Wasting the Creed Brothers by making them the big fish in a small pound. What they are not providing is any real opportunity for Brutus and Julius. The main roster has a new array of possibilities. Every Summerslam or Royal Rumble adds to a compelling and potentially star-making story in a way NXT can’t anymore.

The Main Roster is In Need of Teams

Beyond what the main roster can do for their careers, WWE’s main roster needs more credible tag teams. Eventually, WWE will split the tag team titles up, and when that happens, neither show will be ready. The white-hot momentum of the Sami Zayn story had been fading fast, revealing that the division is in a tight spot despite coming off a WrestleMania main event. To ensure that neither show gets downgraded to “unwatchable” tag team wrestling, WWE needs more serious teams. There is a need for enhancement talent in a division, but you need four or so teams to elevate the titles. Right now, WWE’s best teams are thrown together. Unfortunately, as far as established credible groups go, they arguably have four across both brands.

Nobody believes that Imperium’s goons or the Viking Raiders are credible champions. Of course that can be changed with good booking. However, replacing older, less over talent with newer blood is often easier. The same amount of work goes twice as far because you don’t need to overcome previous booking errors. Also, when it’s done, you have younger talent. The Creed Brothers would have been a perfect example of this. They have played heel and face roles, so however WWE needed them, they could have managed it. Once they debuted, they could be treated as a threat straight away; no need to rehabilitate anyone. It would add some depth to a division in need.

NXT Programming is Highlighting Weaknesses

Admittedly, both brothers have shown minor weakness with promos, especially in their brief solo feuds. As a unit, though, they are more than capable of carrying their half of a rivalry. The brothers have chemistry and play off it well. They are both fun to watch in the ring, even as singles stars. However, as a unit, they arguably put on some of the most exciting tag team matches in the entire division’s history. Just point Brutus and Julius to the champions and let these two legitimate athletes compete.

Their remaining on NXT has seemingly been to try and work on Ivy Nile, the third member of Diamond Mine. The story has also involved working with the incredibly new, incredibly related to The Rock, Ava Raine. This feud has required the brothers to act more—scenes of concern, dealing with Joe Gacy’s intense exchanges. Acting isn’t the brother’s strong suit. Worse still, because of who Ava Raine is, Schism is likely meant to win in the end. Remaining on NXT to help in a feud centered on Ivy Nile and Ava Raine seems like a waste. Worst still is the rivalry is only tarnishing their shine after a great year. If call-ups are finished until next year, then working on Ivy could make sense, but it won’t help Julius or Brutus in the short term.

Why is WWE Wasting the Creed Brothers on NXT?

It could be to build Ivy Nile, it could be to protect NXT ratings, or maybe there is no reason at all. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the first time that WWE didn’t strike when the iron was hot. The Creed Brothers are good, but they are far from the best performers to be left behind by WWE, even in the Triple H era. Whatever the reason, the consistent losses and looming feud with Schism all point to a significant cooling off for the stand-out NXT performers. WWE should rightfully kick themselves if the Creed Brothers finally debut too late, having lost time and shine in losing feuds to help teams do what they already accomplished. The company also shouldn’t be surprised if, after all, that wasted time; The Creed Brothers debuted to the sound of crickets in a sold-out stadium.

Stay tuned to the Last Word on Pro Wrestling for more on this and other stories from around the world of wrestling, as they develop.
