This came as no surprise as, ever since acquiring the promotion from Sinclair last year, Tony Khan has looked to reunite ROH with some of its alumni. As much as anyone else, McGuinness is synonymous with ROH and its history and was a perfect fit. With his return being so well received, it was only a matter of time before Nigel McGuinness was announced as #AllElite, which Khan wasted no time in announcing this afternoon.

Nigel McGuiness is a legend in pro wrestling, and now @McGuinnessNigel is All Elite!

See you all TONIGHT on @TBSNetwork for a massive Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite, and I'll have a very important announcement on TBS tonight! pic.twitter.com/KqJIN0Ba65

— Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) April 5, 2023

Nigel McGuinness is #AllElite

Nigel McGuinness is #AllElite, meaning that he is now a member of the AEW roster. McGuinness has been retired from in-ring activity since 2011, and therefore is widely expected to join the commentary team in some capacity. However, McGuinness also has strong ties to members of the Blackpool Combat Club, particularly Bryan Danielson, who was McGuinness’ greatest rival and opponent – with the two having had numerous five star matches against one another over the years. It is quite possible, then, that he assumes a role within the faction. Like former mouthpiece and founder of the group, William Regal, McGuinness is an Englishman and, despite being a southerner with no known connections to the northern town of Blackpool, he is a worthy replacement for the long departed Regal.

Additionally, it is widely expected that Tony Khan’s big announcement tonight relates in some way to a long overdue U.K. event, so perhaps McGuinness being announced as #AllElite today of all days was done with good reason. We look forward to seeing Nigel McGuinness as a part of the AEW roster.

More From LWOS Pro Wrestling

Header photo credit – AEW.
