{"id":114401,"date":"2022-07-07T11:00:42","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T15:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/?p=114401"},"modified":"2022-07-07T11:53:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-07T15:53:27","slug":"czw-best-of-the-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2022\/07\/07\/czw-best-of-the-best\/","title":{"rendered":"CZW: The Return of Best of the Best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2001 <strong>Combat Zone Wrestling<\/strong> unveiled a new tournament-style event to the wrestling public.\u00a0 This event was called<strong> Best of the Best<\/strong> and was created to showcase wrestlers of all different styles in a tournament that would show just who was the best wrestler in CZW.\u00a0 The catch was that it was only junior heavyweights at first.\u00a0 In 2005, the tournament transitioned to all weights and has stayed that way since.<\/p>\n<p>The event has had a who&#8217;s who of independent wrestlers compete, but only 18 men have gone on to call themselves the best of the best in CZW.\u00a0 Notable BotB champions include <strong>Adam<\/strong> <strong>Cole<\/strong>, <strong>Ruckus<\/strong>, <strong>Sami<\/strong> <strong>Callihan<\/strong>, <strong>Alex<\/strong> <strong>Colon<\/strong>, <strong>&#8220;Speedball Mike Bailey<\/strong>, and Jonathan Gresham.\u00a0 The last tournament was in 2019 and was won by AEW&#8217;s own <strong>John Silver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>CZW: The Return of Best of the Best<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"CZW - Welcome Home Desean Pratt\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZERx-VB805k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When CZW started doing shows again in 2021, a big question arose.\u00a0 Will they be bringing back any of the events that helped build their legacy?\u00a0 There is still a huge demand for ultraviolence to return and with that, <strong>Tournament of Death<\/strong>.\u00a0 Best of the Best, much like ToD, has been on the minds of fans since the company returned to action.\u00a0 There is good news to report to those people who miss the old days in the Combat Zone.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the first-ever CZW Unscripted tournament took place, with the winner getting a first-round bye in the 2022 Best of the Best tournament.\u00a0 This tournament brought on a couple of key questions.\u00a0 When is Best of the Best coming back and what does the winner of the tournament receive?<\/p>\n<p>There is exciting news on both fronts.\u00a0 The return of Best of the Best will be happening towards the end of the Summer or early Fall.\u00a0 Even more exciting than that is the introduction of a brand new CZW World Title.\u00a0 Fans of CZW have noticed the absence of titles since the company returned to action in the Fall of 2021.\u00a0 That all changes at Best of the Best 2022.<\/p>\n<p>But who won the Unscripted tournament to get that first-round bye?\u00a0 None other than <strong>CMD<\/strong> member <strong>Desean<\/strong> <strong>Pratt<\/strong>.\u00a0 Pratt has been a mainstay with CZW for a number of years and while he has made his name in the combat zone with multiple tag teams, he came in and cleared house at Unscripted, proving he is very capable of handling business as a singles competitor as well.
