In fact, the promotion is celebrating 50 years in business this year. With this celebration, we thought it would be appropriate to cover the current champions in AJPW. Learn more in this Beginner&#8217;s Guide for All Japan Pro Wrestling.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>A Guide to Champions in AJPW<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>These are the current champions of All Japan Pro Wrestling as of February 5, 2022.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/uHIC1wo.jpg\" alt=\"AJPW Six Man Tag Team Champions\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>AJPW Six-Man Tag Team Championship<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Current Champions: (Yoshitatsu, Seigo Tachibana, and Takayuki Ueki)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AJ<\/span>PW Six-Man Tag Team Championship is one of the newest championships of All Japan Pro Wrestling, the first champion being crowned at the end of 2020. Since its creation, the Six-Man Tag Team Championship felt like just an extra title in AJPW, given its sporadic history. Even the current AJPW six-man tag champions are completely broken up as <strong>Seigo Tachibana<\/strong> and <strong>Takayuki Ueki<\/strong> recently on <strong>Yoshitatsu<\/strong>\u00a0following the return of <strong>KAZMA Sakamoto<\/strong>. It&#8217;s likely this belt might be vacant sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" class=\"size-full wp-image-106973 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/12\/yusuke-kodama-hokuto-omori-jr-tag.jpg\" alt=\"Yusuke Kodama Hokuto Omori\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/12\/yusuke-kodama-hokuto-omori-jr-tag.jpg 600w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/12\/yusuke-kodama-hokuto-omori-jr-tag-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>All Asia Tag Team Championship<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Current Champions: Total Eclipse (Hokuto Omori and Yusuke Kodama)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The All Asia Tag Team Championship is considered the second tag team championship for All Japan Pro Wrestling. While not established as a junior heavyweight tag title, it is often a title that usually has junior talent holding it. Furthermore, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2021\/12\/27\/yusuke-kodama-hokuto-omori-jr-tag-battle-of-glory\/\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Jr. Tag Battle of Glory<\/strong><\/em><\/a> has been used to crown #1 contenders for the championship. The All Asia Tag Team Championship is also among the oldest in wrestling, even predating AJPW in 1955. One of the most famous matches for championship history was <strong>Kenta Kobashi<\/strong> and <strong>Tsuyoshi Kikuchi<\/strong> vs.<strong> Doug Furnas<\/strong> and <strong>Dan Kroffat<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current champions are <strong>Total Eclipse&#8217;s<\/strong> <strong>Hokuto Omori<\/strong> and <strong>Yusuke Kodama<\/strong>. Omori and Kodama defeated <strong>El Lindaman<\/strong> and <strong>T-Hawk<\/strong> to capture the titles and have had one successful title defense since then. The upcoming challengers are <strong>Takato Nakano<\/strong> and <strong>Masato Kamino<\/strong> of the <strong>BASARA <\/strong>promotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/6Xnzk7Q.jpg\" alt=\"SUGI AJPW World Junior Heavyweight Champion\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>World Junior Heavyweight Championship<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Current Champion: SUGI<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The World Junior Heavyweight Championship is the top prize of All Japan Pro Wrestling&#8217;s junior heavyweight division. This title boasts a lineage of legends. It was held by greats such as <strong>Yoshinari Ogawa<\/strong>, <strong>Masanobu Fuchi<\/strong>, <strong>Kaz Hayashi<\/strong>, the late <strong>Atsushi Aoki,<\/strong> and even the modern-day <strong>Koji Iwamoto<\/strong>. It&#8217;s a championship, that since the departure of Iwamoto, has become borderline chaotic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The championship changed hands sporadically in 2021 with six new champions in AJPW, four of them not having one defense as champion as well. Since Koji Iwamoto left the junior scene, and AJPW as a whole, <strong>SUGI<\/strong> has taken up the mantle as the top star of the junior division. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2022\/01\/04\/sugi-junior-heavyweight-championship\/\" target=\"_self\">He defeated Super Crazy<\/a> to start his second run as World Junior Heavyweight Champion. In this reign, he has had two successful title defenses, defeating <strong>Rising HAYATO<\/strong> and, most recently, <strong>Andy Wu<\/strong>. His upcoming challenger is <strong>Hikaru Sato<\/strong>. AJPW has the <strong><em>Jr. Battle of Glory <\/em><\/strong>tournament to crown a contender for this championship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-103571 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2021\/11\/FDAnM9GaQAEQ1Q1-e1635777158205.jpg\" alt=\"Shigehiro Irie Captures GAORA TV Championship\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>GAORA TV Championship<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Current Champion: Shigehiro Irie<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GAORA TV Championship is named after the TV station <strong>GAORA<\/strong>. This championship could be considered forgotten for most of its run since the early 2010s, often feeling like an afterthought. Its second-most successful champion was former booker <strong>Jun Akiyama<\/strong>. Ever since Akiyama lost the championship, it saw a sort of renewed interest, most notably in the deathmatch scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yoshitatsu ended up becoming one of the most successful champions in the championship&#8217;s history before losing it in a TLC Match against <\/span><strong>Jun Kasai<\/strong>. This started a deathmatch phase for the championship in 2021, with <strong>Shigehiro Irie<\/strong> ending that phase when he captured the championship in October 2021, defeating former champion <strong>Shuji Ishikawa<\/strong> in a brutal match. Irie has had one successful title defense so far. The GAORA TV and AJPW Six-Man Tag Team Championships are the only titles in AJPW that don&#8217;t have tournaments to crown contenders. Irie&#8217;s next challenger is <b>Isami Kodaka<\/b> later in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2022\/01\/31\/ajpw-excite-series-2022-matches\/\" target=\"_self\"><em><strong>Excite Series<\/strong><\/em><\/a> tour.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"2DL40KpKTvV05XxcmczX0w\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.ie\/detail\/1346981705\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'2DL40KpKTvV05XxcmczX0w',sig:'V8W7JNZjE3ZauTvbUPcNCmfQj9zD02xa1wqKZBaeQtA=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'1346981705',caption: true ,tld:'ie',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n<h3><b>World Tag Team Championship<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Current Champions: Runaway Suplex (Shotaro Ashino and Suwama)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The World Tag Team Championship has been considered one of the most important titles in AJPW history, boasting similar importance to the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship in the 90s. The tag team titles are responsible for the legendary feud between <strong>The Holy Demon Army <\/strong>(<strong>Akira Taue<\/strong> and <strong>Toshiaki Kawada<\/strong>) and <strong>Mitsuharu Misawa<\/strong> and Kenta Kobashi. This championship also has a lineage of combined championships as the PWF Tag Team Champions and NWA International Tag Team Championships are responsible for the two title designs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Shotaro Ashino<\/strong> and <strong>Suwama<\/strong> are the current reigning and defending champions in AJPW, holding the championship since September of 2021. Collectively known as <strong>Runaway Suplex<\/strong>, they&#8217;ve been incredibly dominant as champions. They&#8217;ve had two successful title defenses and established their current run as champions by defeating <strong>Kento Miyahara<\/strong> and <strong>Yuma Aoyagi<\/strong> last September\u00a0and this past January. Suwama, one of the former aces of the company, has a history of being an incredible tag competitor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suwama was in a very successful tag team with Shuji Ishikawa as the <strong>Violent Giants<\/strong>. Together, they saw four separate reigns as champions until they broke up at the beginning of 2021. Their upcoming challengers are <strong>Koji Doi<\/strong> and <strong>Kuma Arashi<\/strong> at the end of the <em>Excite Series <\/em>tour. It also holds a separate design with three championships. These are the PWF World Heavyweight Championship, the NWA United National Championship, and the NWA International Heavyweight Championship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship has been held by many great legends in AJPW. These include Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, Toshiaki Kawada, Jun Akiyama, and the current day champion, Kento Miyahara. It&#8217;s one of the most prestigious championships to hold in Japan and the top belt of the promotion. Many of the title&#8217;s biggest feuds revolve around these legends. These include Misawa vs. Kobashi, Misawa vs. Kawada, <strong>Jake Lee<\/strong> vs. Miyahara and many more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kento Miyahara is currently in his fifth reign as champion. Miyahara recently won the championship by defeating Suwama and <strong>Ryuki Honda<\/strong>, the title being vacant for the start of 2022. This was due to former champion Jake Lee suffering a facial injury. Miyahara has his first title defense against <strong>Abdullah Kobayashi<\/strong> towards the end of the <em>Excite Series<\/em> tour.
