{"id":108138,"date":"2022-01-11T14:18:32","date_gmt":"2022-01-11T19:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/?p=108138"},"modified":"2022-01-11T14:18:32","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T19:18:32","slug":"doudrop-becky-lynch-royal-rumble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2022\/01\/11\/doudrop-becky-lynch-royal-rumble\/","title":{"rendered":"Doudrop to Face Becky Lynch at Royal Rumble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Doudrop\u2019s <\/strong>rapid rise in the <em>World Wrestling Entertainment<\/em>\u2019s women\u2019s division not only continued but reached an unexpected zenith on January 10\u2019s <em>Monday Night Raw. <\/em>After demanding a championship opportunity against Raw <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2021\/08\/21\/becky-lynch-returns-summerslam-womens-championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">women\u2019s champion <strong>Becky Lynch <\/strong><\/a>the week prior, Doudrop found herself in the night\u2019s main event: a triple threat versus former <em>Friday Night SmackDown <\/em>women\u2019s champion <strong>Bianca Belair<\/strong> and Lynch\u2019s <em>Day One<\/em> challenger, <strong>Liv Morgan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Doudrop Earns Title Match<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bianca Belair vs. Liv Morgan vs. Doudrop \u2013 Triple Threat Match: Raw, Jan. 10, 2022\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BeiDW3qBesc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Since her <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/prowrestling\/2021\/06\/14\/piper-niven-debuts-monday-night-raw\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">summer 2021 debut<\/a>, Doudrop, formerly known as <strong>Piper Niven <\/strong>in <em>NXT UK,<\/em> has shown considerable charisma and versatility during her time on the Raw roster. Her in-ring talents have made her a compelling and consistent midcard player. When Belair\u2019s initial feud with Lynch abruptly fizzled and Morgan was inserted as Lynch\u2019s foe instead, Belair and Doudrop\u2019s midcard feud produced stand out matches between the two, which helped propel both of them into the chase for the \u201cred brand\u201d\u2019s women\u2019s title, the title most emblematic of the early days of WWE\u2019s women\u2019s evolution.<\/p>\n<p>Before the match commenced, Lynch addressed the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Wells Fargo Center crowd, verbally sizing up each of the women looking to face her at January 29\u2019s <em>Royal Rumble.<\/em> Of Doudrop, Lynch praised her for having the nerve to take what she wanted, seizing her shot to face Lynch herself. This certainly bore out in the bout\u2019s opening seconds, as Doudrop aggressively targeted her recent sparring partner Belair. The two brawled inside the ring and out, giving Morgan a chance to land a flying splash off the ropes into both of her opponents. Lynch took Morgan\u2019s gutsy maneuver as a compliment to herself, opining that Morgan would do\u00a0 anything for, \u201cAnother taste of the big time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bianca Belair vs. Doudrop: Raw, Dec. 13, 2021\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nkxd77Qh9x8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Doudrop, however, had some bravura moves of her own to display. Belair momentarily isolated her from the action with a hard kick that left Doudrop recovering, winded, in a corner, and she and Morgan focused on each other. Belair drew on her prodigious strength to nail a back suplex on Morgan, but Doudrop executed a double cross body on both Belair and Morgan. She followed this assault up with a Michinoku driver upon Belair. Morgan held an advancing Doudrop off momentarily with a kick, and attempted to perform a hurricanrana. Her attempt was to no avail, and the former Piper Niven laid her upon a prostrate Belair. Despite being a longshot who muscled her way into the race for the Raw women\u2019s belt, Doudrop was dominating the two high-profile challengers who have both faced Lynch before on PPV.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan rallied and attempted an aggressive offense, mounting Doudrop\u2019s back and delivering a series of stomps\u2026only to find herself swatted like a fly and landing outside the ring, supine and panting. All three women re-entered the ring, and Morgan made her last stand countering attacks from both Doudrop and Belair. A powerbomb from Doudrop ended Morgan\u2019s charge, and when Doudrop was about to cover Morgan for a pinfall win Belair flew in, hitting a 450 splash upon Doudrop. Fired up, Belair immobilized both Doudrop and Morgan and was about to wrap up the encounter with a Kiss of Death on Morgan. The champion, Lynch, however, interfered, attacking Belair.<\/p>\n<p>With Belair preoccupied, Doudrop seized her moment, dropping from the second rope upon an inert Morgan, and covering for the win. The long shot, the dark horse, the breakout tweener with equal charisma and grit, Doudrop had secured a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Rumble\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Rumble match<\/a> against the woman who once embodied all of those same attributes herself, Raw women\u2019s champion Becky Lynch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doudrop\u2019s rapid rise in the World Wrestling Entertainment\u2019s women\u2019s division not only continued but reached an unexpected zenith on January 10\u2019s Monday Night Raw.
