WWE is getting extreme for the first time in over a year as Sunday night signaled it being time for Extreme Rules<\/em><\/strong>. The pay-per-view has been a WWE staple for years now, being the one night where stipulations typically fill the matches up and down the card. That wasn’t the case this year as only the main event would be going extreme, but it still managed to be a good night of action. Here are the Extreme Rules<\/em> results for the 2021 event.<\/p>\n

WWE Extreme Rules Results & Match Ratings (9\/26\/21)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

— The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, & Xavier Woods) vs. Bobby Lashley, AJ Styles, & Omos<\/p>\n

Winner: The New Day<\/p>\n

Rating: 3.25 (***1\/4)<\/p>\n

\u2014 SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos (c) vs. The Street Profits<\/p>\n

Winner: The Usos<\/p>\n

Rating: 3.50 (***1\/2)<\/p>\n

WWE Extreme Rules Results: In-Depth Match Analysis<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. \u201cThe Demon\u201d Finn Balor<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A fantastic main event ruined by one of the most over-the-top and ridiculous finishes in WWE history. That’s the best way to describe the highly-anticipated battle between “The Tribal Chief” and “The Demon.” Everything one could positively say about the first 95 percent of this match will essentially be forgotten due to a finish that saw Finn Balor<\/strong>‘s alter ego rise and fall.<\/p>\n

Getting into the match itself, it had the big fight feel that anyone would look and hope for in the main event of a pay-per-view. A feeling that has gone along with the reign of Roman Reigns<\/strong>. They wrestled all around the arena, utilizing kendo sticks, steel chairs, and the crowd’s favorite tables. Battling towards the Kickoff Panel desk, Reigns was in control before a valiant Balor came flying off the desk. They would both crash and burn through a table set up on the side, allowing “The Demon” to stand tall. Reigns was sputtering and looking for help as the match came down to the wire. Balor aimed to close in on a win, attempting his signature Shotgun Dropkick before getting met by a thunderous Spear. Reflective of their first match, Balor would kick out and hit a low blow in the process as the champion previously had.<\/p>\n

Balor would get back on the offense and even managed to hit the Coup de Grace. The crowd was on their feet as the referee’s hand came down for the three. Before that was the case, The Usos<\/strong> saved Reigns from the loss. In a beatdown around ringside, Balor began to fight back once again, this time throwing one down and the other through the announce table. Reigns would come from the other side of ringside to hit another Spear on Balor, this time through the barricade. This would be where everything that made sense was put to an end and the messiness that they call a finish kicked in.<\/p>\n

Balor’s music began out of nowhere which signaled the re-summoning of “The Demon.” The lights in the arena would be red as Balor became indestructible and neared his win with his music playing in the background like an action movie. It made zero sense but proved to be the least problematic of the absurd finish. As Balor got to the top rope to put the finishing touches on Reigns with another Coup de Grace, the top rope snapped off every ring post to send him crashing down. Reigns would take advantage by hitting a Spear and ending the match once and for all. It was messy, made little sense, and ruined what was a top-tier main event between these two. Explaining what happened will be the most appealing aspect to come out of this as “The Demon” has finally been defeated and Reigns is still champion.<\/p>\n

Whatever might be next won’t be enough to make up for what can be described as a “Fiend-like” finish.<\/p>\n
