Introducing the Varsity Blondes
After months of teaming together, Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. have finally been christened with a team name. A play off of the Hollywood Blondes moniker of which Pillman’s father was one half of the duo with Steve Austin, Garrison and Pillman Jr.’s duo will go by the Varsity Blondes. Now, neither Pillman or Garrison have officially been announced as All Elite, though all signs have pointed to that being the case for a while. Garrison is a regular on Sammy Guevara‘s vlog and both he and Pillman have wrestled as a team on Dynamite, not just DARK. The final piece of the puzzle was getting a team name and getting a win.
Now, much like the Acclaimed before them and Serpentico/Jon Cruz (who was announced as All Elite shortly after the formation of Chaos Project with LUTHER), it seems only a matter of time until the Varsity Blondes join the ranks of AEW’s growing tag team division. The Blondes will take on Alex Reynolds and Colt Cabana, who at this point is probably, definitely in The Dark Order. Cabana has been paling around with the boys on Being the Elite and has been seen ringside with the group several times. Could he and Reynolds be the duo to give the Varsity Blondes their first win and further suggest that Garrison and Pillman are indeed, All Elite?

Dueling Winning Streaks on AEW DARK
When Brandon Cutler defeated Peter Avalon recently, it marked the end of an epic losing streak. Avalon’s own ended shortly after and now, with AEW putting those losing marks behind them, it only makes sense that they’d have Cutler and Avalon both embark on winning streaks, right? After serving as the enhancement talent for over a year on DARK, both Cutler and Avalon are finally getting their own matches against local talent. Both will be in action this week as Avalon takes on the returning Louie Valle and Cutler faces Fuego Del Sol, who is another talent who seems likely to have signed or to be on his way to signing a contract with the company. That doesn’t mean Del Sol will get the win tonight, but look out, if he uses that tornado DDT, Cutler could be in trouble.

Spotlighting the Women’s Division
AEW’s women’s division has been a source of consternation and frustration among fans for almost as long as the company has been in existence. For all of their hiccups, AEW has at least recently, seemed to show they have heard the fans’ concerns. This week on DARK, six of the 16 matches will feature the women of AEW and perhaps the future generation of AEW women in their opponents. This is the most amount of women’s matches on any single AEW show yet and there is reason to be hopeful this is not a one off, but rather a step in the right direction.
Representing the AEW roster will be Diamante, Ivelisse, Big Swole, Nyla Rose and Shanna. They will take on the respective independent women’s wrestlers of Tesha Price, Skyler Moore, Lindsay Snow, Alex Gracia and Freya States, who will be making her AEW debut. The sixth match will feature Dani Jordyn in action against Red Velvet, who was reported to have signed with AEW last month. There are great opportunities for the women of AEW and women of the indies, on this card.
