Preview: AEW DARK (11/10/20)

AEW DARK 11/10/20

It’s the first AEW DARK following the events of Full Gear. This week, there is just a nine match card but it’s a pretty exciting one as it features one of the top tag teams on the indies, some more fresh debuts, and wrestlers returning to action for the first time in months. Let’s dive right in to tonight’s card.

Alan Angels vs Fuego Del Sol

One of AEW DARK’s recent favorites, Fuego Del Sol is back again, only this time to take on Alan Angels and a ringside of Dark Order supporters in his corner. One-half of Five and Dime alongside Preston Vance, the 22-year-old Angels has wrestled five singles matches in AEW since joining the Dark Order back in May. That’s only one less than Fuego Del Sol, who first debuted in AEW as local talent in May. Del Sol has wrestled eight matches overall in AEW, but like many of the local talents, has yet to get his first win. Might that happen tonight on DARK? It’s unlikely as Angels will have every advantage that the numbers game provides. But if Del Sol does the tornado DDT of which he is supposedly the master, perhaps he’ll pull off a shocking upset.

The Acclaimed vs Louie Valle and Justin Blax

It didn’t take long for AEW to christen a new tag team name for the newly signed Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. As several other wrestlers before them, Caster and Bowens found themselves becoming All Elite thanks to their performances on DARK. But these two are a bit of a unique case there as Caster only wrestled three matches and Bowens two, before AEW signed them. More than that, the duo only wrestled once as a team ever. Clearly in that one DARK match, the powers that be saw something in these two youngsters enough to put them together. Last week, the Acclaimed got their first win as a team and they’ll be looking for their second here against the new-to-AEW Justin Blax and returning Louie Valle, who made his DARK debut last month.

Dreamgirl Ellie and Jennacide vs Ivelisse and Diamante

Making their individual AEW DARK debuts are Dreamgirl Ellie and Jennacide. Having started her career in mid-2018, Ellie has been a prominent competitor in Punk Pro Wrestling throughout 2020. Her most recent appearance took place in FLAWLESS Wrestling, where she took on Charlie Kruel in a winning effort. On the other side of the coin exists Jennacide, who boasts slightly more wrestling experience, having started in 2016. Indie wrestling fans may know her better as Jenna Van Muscles, where she wrestled in women’s promotions such as SHINE. Together, Ellie and Jennacide debut on DARK against the established duo of Ivelisse and Diamante. Will these AEW newcomers be able to pick up the win?

Dani Jordyn vs Leva Bates

One-half of the Librarian, Leva Bates seems to have left her other half behind following the events of the match a few weeks ago between Brandon Cutler and Peter Avalon. With Bates on her own, she’s headed back to the ring as well, prepared to wrestle just her third match of the year and just her second in singles action. Bates will take on one of the top female standouts from DARK in Dani Jordyn. The Real Mean Girl will be wrestling in her sixth singles match of the year. She hasn’t picked up a victory yet but Jordyn is certainly someone AEW has had their eye on. Perhaps she’ll even beat Bates on Tuesday night.

Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela vs Jurassic Express

This match features two of the most established teams in AEW. The duo of Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela can best be described as unorthodox, though their unique partnership has yielded modest success on DARK. Furthermore, Kiss has been looking to get back to his winning ways following his quick loss to Kenny Omega in the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament. Meanwhile, Jurassic Express has been continually building momentum, especially in regard to Jungle Boy, who continues to be one of the rising stars in the promotion. Regardless of who comes away victorious here, this will be a match to watch.

Lucha Brothers vs Ashton Starr and David Ali

After spending some time apart to participate in the AEW #1 contender’s tournament, Pentagon and Fenix are back as a duo to take on  Ashton Starr and David Ali. This will be Ali’s sixth match on DARK and his fourth with a different tag team partner. Starr joins Jon Cruz, Musa and Cezar Bononi as Ali’s running mates, as he is set to make his AEW debut on Tuesday night. A trainee of AR Fox, Starr is known for his work in the Southern indie scene. He made his Game Changer Wrestling debut earlier this year, but his DARK appearance will no doubt be the biggest opportunity of Starr’s career.

The Hybrid 2 vs Adam Priest and Shawn Dean

The dawn of the new hybrid continues as The Hybrid 2, the team of Jack Evans and Angelico, aim to pick up a win on AEW DARK. The Hybrid 2 has been a relatively successful duo on DARK, not only as a tag team but in singles competition as well. On this episode, they will take on the duo of Adam Priest and Shawn Dean. It’s important to note that Dean has made a few appearances on this YouTube show, albeit in losing efforts. Despite this, he’s shown potential, and alongside Adam Priest, he aims to finally pick up a win over DARK. Against a long-standing team like Evans and Angelico, however, this may be easier said than done.

TNT vs Chaos Project

The duo of Serpentico and Luther have been enjoying a pretty successful few months ever since they joined forces in July. The two are 4-2 in their matches and 5-1 on DARK. AEW has a tendency to throw together tag teams, as can be seen in a variety of places on this card. Chaos Project is one of them. However, a team that wasn’t thrown together is the duo that represents Chaos Project’s opponents tonight, in Terrell and Terrance Hughes, better known as the sons of Devon Dudley. The Hughes brothers have been wrestling for just under five years now, all of which has come as a team. Going by TNT, the Hughes brothers have won several titles on the indies and recently took part in a WWE tryout as well. The sky is the limit for the pair of brothers and a good showing on DARK could go a long way to getting these two a contract with one of the U.S. majors.

Top Flight vs Baron Black and Frankie Thomas

One of the indies’ top rising tag teams, Top Flight, is returning to AEW this week in a big spot, as the duo of Air Wolf and Angel Dorado are on track to pick up a win on DARK. And as history has shown us, those who get wins on DARK almost always end up signing contracts with AEW. So Top Flight will definitely be a team to watch for in the coming days and weeks to see if they end announced as All Elite. In the meantime however, Wolf and Dorado will just look to continue what has been a breakout 2020 with bookings in Black Label Pro, AAW, and GCW in addition to AEW. Their opponents on Tuesday night are returning to DARK as a duo for the first time. Baron Black is making his seventh appearance in AEW and Frankie Thomas will be making his second, returning for the first time since July.
