Dragon Gate had a lot of changes on the 2nd of August during Memorial Gate, allowing fans back in, cage match momentum, and most importantly two title changes.
Jason Lee and Kota Minoura defeated BxB Hulk and KAZMA Sakamoto for the Open The Twin Gate Championships.
The first title match of the night and the semi-main event saw the Dragon Gate Generation duo of Jason Lee and Kota Minoura dethrone the R.E.D duo of BxB Hulk and KAZMA Sakamoto, in a shocking upset. This is only Jason’s second title and Kota’s first, and to claim his first title Kota Minoura pinned the former Dream Gate Champion, BxB Hulk in what’s the third time in recent months. Kota Minoura continues to rise the ranks and with Jason Lee at his side, who knows when they’ll slow down.
Eita defeats Naruki Doi for the Open the Dream Gate Championship
R.E.D lost one title but they claimed another one when Eita dethroned Naruki Doi to capture the Open the Dream Gate in a surprisingly honorable way when he denied usage of the chair that his R.E.D mate BxB Hulk handed him. Eita finally claimed the big one, the only title in Dragon Gate that has avoided him for his career, the young leader of R.E.D won the title the same way he won the King of Gate tournament, by tapping out Naruki Doi. Eita’s first reign with the Dream Gate will be an interesting one to watch especially with the tease of tension in R.E.D between him and Hulk.
Dragon Gate looks to soar into a new generation as with these title changes, all the champions in Dragon Gate are under 30. The younger generation is starting to rise, and with the ongoing three-way generational warfare, it will be curious to see how the older crowd answers. Dragon Gate continues to intrigue and with the six-man cage match approaching the landscape could change in a heartbeat.
