The first of three championship matches during NXT UK’s second TakeOver event saw the Welsh tandem of Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster capture the NXT UK Tag Team Championships as they defeated defending champions The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) and fellow challengers Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) in an outstanding triple threat match. This marks the first time a WWE championship has been held by someone from Wales.
The Grizzled Young Veterans became the inaugural champions back in January at TakeOver: Blackpool, besting Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) in the finals of a tournament. Their 231 days with the straps included successful defences over Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, and Kenny Williams and Noam Dar but now, Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster sit atop the tree in NXT UK’s tag team division.
#AndNEW: Kay Lee Ray Wins NXT UK Women’s Championship
The penultimate match of the evening saw Toni Storm‘s time with the NXT UK Women’s Championship come to an end as Kay Lee Ray dethrone the New Zealand native to win the title. With the win, The Queen of Insanity now becomes the second Scottish-born champion in WWE history, behind only Drew McIntyre.
After defeating Rhea Ripley for the title at TakeOver: Blackpool, Toni Storm went through every challenger who stepped up to challenge her – Jinny, Nina Samuels, Bianca Belair, Viper, it didn’t matter. Toni knocked them all back. Sadly for her though, The Queen of Insanity proved herself to be that extra bit better as two Gory Bombs (one of which was on the ropes) made Kay Lee Ray the third NXT UK Women’s Champion in history.
