The NXT Recap (08/28/19)

NXT Recap

Probably the most jam-packed NXT I’ve had the pleasure of recapping. The return of Dominick Dijakovic, a shocking debut, and the rematch between The Undisputed Era and The Street Profits for the NXT Tag Team Championship. Let’s start this NXT Recap off with a match featuring “The Genius of the Sky” Io Shirai.

The NXT Recap (08/28/19)

IO SHIRAI DISMANTLES CAMI FIELDS

The “Joshi Judas” dominated this contest the entire time, this was basically another showcase match for her heel work which was fantastic. Shirai nailed a moonsault to Fields, refusing to take a two count, she locked in the Harajuku Clutch for the win.

Not satisfied with her win, Shirai went to attack Fields with a kendo stick, but Candice LeRae ran out for the save. LeRae took the kendo stick blitzing Shirai with bow after blow, cementing these two aren’t done with each other yet.

DIJAKOVIC GETS THE WIN IN SHOW STEALER WITH KEITH LEE

What an incredible match between Keith Lee and Dominick Dijakovic! The fact that these two aren’t regulars on Takeover specials shows how stacked the NXT roster is.

Moonsault, avalanche Spanish fly, these big men should not be able to do that! Dijakovic picked up the victory with Feast Your Eyes, but Keith Lee looked incredible as well.

Both of these men deserve to be in the title picture. I know they’ve both had injury issues, but they weren’t doing much with them before the injuries.

Heck Keith Lee has felt like a bigger deal since his return than he ever did with his debut.

SHANE THORNE WANTS THE SPOTLIGHT AND…RHEA RIPLEY IN NXT!!!!

Normally I don’t comment on brief segments, but Shane Thorne has been fantastic since his return against Joaquin Wilde. He interrupted the commentary team while they were discussing Johnny Gargano’s future, imploring the commentary team to talk about his undefeated streak.

Inevitably Thorne will lose, and most likely to one of the breakout tournament participants (Jordan Myles is my pick), but he is taking complete advantage of this opportunity.

Now for the major highlight…Rhea Ripley confronting Shayna Baszler!!! The former NXT UK Women’s Champion came out before Baszler could even say a word (for that alone I’m on her side), making a statement that she is the biggest threat to Shayna’s title.

Brilliant way to get people immediately excited for the next NXT Women’s Championship feud, and Rhea is a great choice to take the strap off of Shayna.

THE UNDISPUTED ERA REGAIN THE NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Adam Cole’s prophecy is now one step closer to being fulfilled. Both teams gave all they had, but the Undisputed Era’s capitalized on a missed frog splash from Ford.

The Street Profits continue to improve every time they are in the ring, and they will definitely see continued success in their career’s. I would not be surprised if in a few months they are the ones regaining the titles from Fish and O’Reilly.

Phenomenal effort from both teams. The Undisputed Era are excellent as the opportunistic heels, and few teams can generate the heat for a hot tag like the Street Profits. With contests like this, you can’t help but pray for the rubber match.
