CMLL Arena Puebla: Volador Jr. Defeats Dragon Lee In Their First Encounter!

CMLL Arena Puebla

At tonights CMLL from Arena Puebla, two current Welterweight Champions went one-on-one for the first time in their careers, but only one title would be on the line as Volador Jr. successfully defended the NWA World Historic Welterweight Title against the current CMLL World Welterweight Champion, Dragon Lee.

Volador Jr. has held his current title for 369 days when he won the title from the current Ring Of Honor World Heavyweight Champion, Matt Taven back on March, 8th, 2018. Volador Jr considered one of the faces and cornerstones of Consejo Mundial De Lucha Libre has been wrestling since early March 6th, 1998 and has since wrestled 2240 matches counting tonights match against Dragon Lee. While this isn’t Volador’s first round with the Welterweight title as he’s earned the title two other times before his current stint, he’s also held the CMLL Trios and Tag Team titles on separate occasions. Between all 3 stints with the NWA World Historic Welterweight championship, Volador Jr. has held the belt close to 2000 days in his career.

Dragon Lee is a member of what many consider the most successful family currently in CMLL, The Munoz Dynasty, with brothers RUSH, and Mistico. Led by their father, La Bestia Del Ring, Lee has seen much success in several organizations such as NJPW and ROH to name a couple. Dragon Lee will have wrestled 669 matches after tonights match with Volador Jr. Perhaps the impressive feat about this international superstar is that he’s only been in the business for a little over 5 years and is only 24 years of age, however, Lee has had a ton of success in so little time. Lee is the former 2-time CMLL Light Heavyweight Champion and at one point held his current CMLL welterweight title while also holding the Lightweight title.

Lee is also the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion when he won the title in what can arguably be considered the biggest match of his career when he defeated Taiji Ishimori and Bandido in a 3-way match at the worlds most famous arena, Madison Square Garden for the G1 Supercard of Honor. Lee has currently been the CMLL Welterweight Champion for 140 days.
