Indiana’s Black Label Pro continues to be a rising force in the Midwest territory, with another stacked card this weekend. And as if the card wasn’t strong enough, they’re bringing in WWE Hall of Famer and Four Horseman Barry Windham for an appearance, including a Wrestling Seminar early in the day for aspiring wrestlers (and veterans who just want to absorb his wealth of knowledge). There’s Something About Barry airs live on Saturday on IndependentWrestling.tv at 5:30pm EST.
Preview: Black Label Pro – There’s Something About Barry
Bear Bronson vs. AJ Gray
Bear Bronson has emerged from the Create-A-Pro Wrestling School in 2015 to become one of the young studs of the US indie scene, especially in Beyond Wrestling where his new tag team Bear Country is riding a four-match undefeated streak on Uncharted Territory. He returns to singles action this weekend against another rising star of the US indies in AJ Gray, who has been tearing it up in Ohio with Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW) as well as Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Glory Pro and ACTION Wrestling. He’s also the reigning Paradigm Pro Wrestling (PPW) Champion.
Tony Deppen & Travis Huckabee vs. Violence is Forever (Dominic Garrini & Kevin Ku)
Tony Deppen has been on a tear the past year, as a heavy hitter in GCW in singles action, but also in CHIKARA, where he’s a regular tag partner of Travis Huckabee. The two CHIKARA villains are heading across state lines to head to BLP on Saturday, but they’re heading into action with one of the hottest new tag teams in the US in Violence is Forever (formerly Sadkampf). The reigning Pro Wrestling Freedoms (PWF) Tag champs out feature AIW and EVOLVE star Dominic Garrini and Southern star Kevin Ku.
No Holds Barred: Bryan Alvarez vs. Marko Stunt
While he’s best known as one of Dave Melzter‘s cohorts on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez has been an indie wrestler since the early 2000s and has been wrestling more often again the past year. Last November at BLP Big Trouble in Little Crown Point, Alvarez defeated Marko Stunt, who was on a meteoric rise after appearing at GCW’s Joey Janela’s Lost in New York, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla‘s Battle of Los Angeles and All In, by somewhat nefarious means. Stunt would be injured for almost six months with a broken leg shortly after, and now that he’s back to 100%, Stunt is looking for revenge against one of his biggest detractors.
Kylie Rae vs. Shazza McKenzie
Hot off a big performance at All Elite Wrestling (AEW)‘s Double or Nothing last week, Kylie Rae returns to action in a huge match-up against one of Australia’s top indie veterans in Shazza McKenzie. Kylie Rae has been on a rocket pace to stardom the past year and her addition to AEW is a testament to her hard work and great resume of matches. But Shazza is no slouch herself. An 11-year veteran of the international indies, the reigning Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) Black Label Women’s Champion is also a veteran of SHIMMER, Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) and many more. Currently amidst a US tour, McKenzie will be looking to make a huge statement by defeating one of AEW’s top stars.
Ethan Page vs. Gary Jay
To paraphrase Jim Ross, this one will be a slobberknocker! “All Ego” Ethan Page may run his mouth, but as he’s shown around the world, he has the fortitude to back that up, by hook or by crook. The IMPACT Wrestling star is facing one of the toughest men in the Midwest in Gary Jay. Jay is a 16-year veteran who has plied his trade everywhere from IWA Mid South to St. Louis Anarchy, from Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) to Glory Pro, and continues to push his opponents to the absolute limit.
BLP Indiana State Championship: “Warhorse” Jake Parnell (c) vs. “Spyder” Nate Webb
It’s been 120 days since “Warhorse” Jake Parnell defeated Kobe Durst (the current BLP Champion) for the BLP Indiana State Championship, and he’s defended it against all comers, including Gary Jay, AJ Gray, and Bear Bronson. He’ll have his toughest challenge to date this Saturday, when he faces off against a hardcore legend in “Spyder” Nate Webb, a 20-year veteran of wars in IWA Mid South, CZW and GCW. Can the former 2x IWA Mid South Heavyweight Champion win BLP gold in his home state?
BLP Tag Team Championship: Blood Diamond (Jake Lander & Tre LeMar) vs. Space Pirates (Shane Sabre & Space Monkey)
On Saturday, the young tandem of Blood Diamond, featuring emerging Midwest stars Jake Lander and Tre LeMar, will surpass Space Pirates (the inaugural BLP tag champs) as the longest reigning tag team champions in BLP history, but Space Pirates will be looking to reclaim the gold they lost to Blood Diamond at last month’s BLP Player’s Brawl. Shane Sabre & Space Monkey has had more experience together as a tag team the past year around the US and Canadian indies, but Blood Diamond’s youthful confidence could lead to their first title defense.
BLP Championship: Kobe Durst (c) vs. Jordynne Grace
In the main event, Kobe Durst is putting his BLP Championship reign of 58-days on the line, as the most decorated man in BLP history faces former BLP Champion and IMPACT Knockout Champion Jordynne Grace in singles competition. It’s the first time these two have locked up in a one-on-one match and Grace has been in heavy training for her upcoming Knockouts title match against Taya Valkyrie next week for IMPACT’s A Night You Can’t Mist, so she’ll be looking to snag some more gold heading into next week.
