Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at one of the fastest rising women’s stars on the indie circuit, who just won the #1 contendership for the Independent Wrestling Championship currently held by Orange Cassidy, “The Alien” Kris Statlander.
Aliens Among Us – Kris Statlander Ready To Conquer The World
Westlip, New York’s Kris Statlander (sometimes spelled Stadtlander) has been wrestling less than two years, but already the emerging indie star has become one of the fastest rising women’s stars of the year. The first female graduate from Pat Buck and Curt Hawkins‘ Create-A-Pro Wrestling Academy out of New York, Statlander made her debut in New York’s Victory Pro Wrestling (VPW) in April of 2017, and since then she hasn’t looked back. By June, she had defeated VPW Women’s Champion (and recent WWE signing and NXT debuting) Karen Q for the belt, which she held an astounding 378-days. She also worked for trainer Pat Buck’s Wrestle Pro and another New York indie promotion, New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC). In October of 2017, she made her debut with Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) at CZW Dojo Wars, in a match against “The Maneater” Maria Manic.
Last year, Statlander saw her stock rise quickly and exponentially, as she made debuts with the likes of Ring of Honor (in a dark match at TV tapings in August), IMPACT Wrestling (against Allie and Tessa Blanchard in a triple threat on the IMPACT/America’s Most Liked (AML) Wrestling Twitch specials), Beyond Wrestling, Limitless Wrestling, Womens Superstars Uncensored (WSU), Women’s Wrestling Revolution (WWR), Queens of Combat (QOC) and New York’s House of Glory (HOG). She captured her second VPW Women’s Championship as well as the NYWC Starlet Championship, which she recently won last week at NYWC Psycho Circus 17.
The day after winning the NYWC Starlet title, she won Beyond Wrestling’s Treasure Hunt tournament, defeating Jordynne Grace, David Starr and finally Chris Dickinson in the finals, to become the number one contender for Orange Cassidy’s Independent Wrestling Championship. She also made her debut with Indiana’s Black Label Pro and her Canadian debut with Ottawa’s Capital City Championship Combat (C4), where she defeated veterans Allysin Kay (formerly Sienna, the reigning Shine Champion) and Mercedes Martinez in February.
She’s already earned the respect and admiration of her peers, both in the ring and out, and has created a buzz for whenever “The Alien” is booked to appear on more and more indies in North America. She was also recently selected to be an extra at last week’s NXT tapings in Orlando following a WWN/EVOLVE Seminar.

Keep your eye out for Kris Statlander coming to an indie promotion near you, because it’s clearly only a matter of time before she ascends to the next level and in 2019, be prepared to see the Alien finally conquer the planet she’s come to infiltrate.
