DEFY Wrestling announced that Heavyweight Champion Artemis Spencer will defend the title against Dezmond Xavier. The match will take place at the DEFY 2nd Anniversary show in Seattle on Friday January 18th. This is the first defense of the title for Spencer that he won back on December 14th against Shane “Swerve” Strickland. Spencer arrived on the scene in early 2018 after spending most of his career competing in Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW) and has done nothing but get his hand raised. The 32 year old from British Columbia got the biggest win of his career against Strickland, but may have to match that performance against young superstar Xavier.

For Dezmond Xavier this is not the first time the 2017 IMPACT Super X Cup winner has set foot in a DEFY ring as he took down Scorpio Sky back in September. The Razcal recently lost a bid to win the Major League Wrestling (MLW) Middleweight Title, and comes back to the Pacific Northwest with another chance at gold. Xavier brings a variety of offensive weapons to the ring, but Spencer is a very capable grappler who besides Strickland has also beaten Rey Fenix, Jake Atlas, and King Khash.
What countermeasures will Spencer employ against Xavier’s attack? Will he be overconfident after dethroning Swerve, or will he be ready for the young Impact star, or will this match, and the DEFY Title be the beginning of a huge year for Dezmond Xavier?
