After years of declaring that Bullet Club, the iconic New Japan Pro Wrestling stable founded in 2013 by Prince Devitt, Karl Anderson, Bad Luck Fale and Tama Tonga, has never had a true leader, Tama Tonga declared on Twitter that it finally had one, in recent draftee “Switchblade” Jay White.

For years, Tama Tonga has insisted that Bullet Club never followed one man in particular and that it was a family mentality that followed one ideology of chaos and destruction in NJPW. While people like Prince Devitt and AJ Styles were regarded as leaders by many of the fan base, they were actually presented more as spiritual advisers. It wasn’t until Kenny Omega ousted Styles and took a more firm control – followed by a fight for leadership with Cody Rhodes – that the true question of leadership in Bullet Club became a hot topic. Due to the ongoing squabbles by Omega and Rhodes, Tanga united with Bullet Club members Tanga Loa and Bad Luck Fale to oust the duo – as well as the entire membership of the Elite (Young Bucks, Hangman Page and Marty Scurll) and members Chase Owens and Yujiro Takahashi in a cleansing by the Firing Squad.

Bullet Club began to restock its membership, adding Pro Wrestling NOAH‘s Taiji Ishimori and Australian indie star Robbie Eagles, as well as taking in former CHAOS members Jay White, Gedo and Jado to expand its roster. Jay White took the appointment with grace.
