WWL High Voltage Preview: TLC, Apolo Returns and More (8/17/18)

World Wrestling League looks to continue their hot streak and this time around a Table, Ladders and Chairs (TLC) match has everybody on the island with high expectations around the show.

The TIDE vs. Westside Mafia vs. Primos Melendez (TLC Match)

The hottest tag teams are in WWL, no doubt about it. This summer, while WWL was doing their tiring IWA vs. WWL angle, the matches that kept fans glued to WWL was the tag team matches.

Primos Melendez beat Westside Mafia and The TIDE in a triple threat match back in Golpe de Estado to win the WWL Tag Team titles. It was the best match of the night, saving the show after a horrendous main event. In War in the West, Los Primos Melendez prove that their win wasn’t a fluke and beat The TIDE to retain their titles.

Later, Morgan & Tabu (WSM) and Mike Mendoza & Angel Fashion (TIDE) had a ugly feud. They had an amazing match in High Voltage Dorado, but, after a double pin (illegal by the way), WWL owner Boris Bilbraut decided that in their next show, the tag team championship match would be in a TLC match. Is safe to say that this could be the match of the year.

Apolo vs. Manny Ferno

Manny Ferno has become the biggest heel in WWL and in the island. His mic skills are basically carrying the main event feud in the company. El León Apolo was bought, supposedly by Ferno in WWL, but now, he’s coming for him.

Apolo is a IWA-Original – he’s captured the IWA World Championship more than anybody else the company’s history. Apolo, who has wrestle all over the world – even signed at one point to a WWE developmental deal – is returning to WWL after two years of absence.

WWL Americas Championship: JC Navarro (c) vs. Mr. BIG

JC Navarro was awarded best technical wrestler in 2017 and with good reason. He was trained by Arkangel de la Muerte in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and is the best wrestler in the Puro Machos stable that’s running WWL. Navarro has barely defended the Americas championship, which he won from Spectro in Juicio Final. This will be his first title defense.

BIG comes off from one of his best runs as WWL Heavyweight Champion. Trained by Savio Vega, BIG was one of the hottest prospects in the mid 2000s. Standing 6 foot 8 and weighting 300 plus pound, the behemoth created the faction known in the mid 2000s as La Rabia, alongside Blitz. BIG gain notoriety when he was at the time the WWC Universal Champion (it wasn’t an official reign) and jumped ship to IWA Puerto Rico to unify his title with the IWA World Championship against Blitz. The move closed the doors for the big man in the wrestling industry.

Other matches

Mark Davidson will have his first defense of the WWL Cruiserweight Championship against former champion Pupe Jackson. Also, Roxxy goes up against Allison.
