The fantasy football playoffs are upon us. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. For reference, the threshold used for wins and losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score 15 plus points and if the rest can score 10 plus PPR points. It\u2019s the matchup we didn\u2019t know we needed. This will be the first time Dalton takes on his former team when the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/cowboys\/\" target=\"_self\">Dallas Cowboys<\/a> travel to Cincinnati to take on the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/bengals\/\" target=\"_self\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>. The Bengals are currently in shambles and look like one of the worst teams in the league without <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BurrJo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Burrow<\/a><\/strong>. Their defense has been just downright bad all around. They\u2019ve only been mid-pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks this year but that\u2019s also because they\u2019ve been run on so much as well. It\u2019s still a defense that can be beat through the air. The Cowboys could certainly lean on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/ElliEz00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ezekiel Elliott<\/a><\/strong> and the running game as well but Dalton should have no problem moving the ball through the air and should be extra motivated to take on his former team. Both of these teams run at a fast pace and Dalton could be a nice streaming option in a deeper league or in a pinch this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Honorable Mentions \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TrubMi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitchell Trubisky<\/a><\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(CHI\u00a0\u2013 13%) v HOU,<strong>\u00a0Philip Rivers <\/strong>(IND\u00a0\u2013 40%) @ LV<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Running Back \u2013\u00a0Ty Johnson\u00a0(NYJ \u2013 2%) @ SEA<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>When Frank Gore left the game in the first quarter with a concussion this weekend, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JohnTy02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ty Johnson<\/strong><\/a> stepped in and delivered the best game of his career. He handled 22 carries for 104 yards and a score on the ground and chipped in another 13 yards through the air on two receptions. This was the first 100-yard game of Johnson\u2019s career and his first career rushing touchdown as well. There is some concern as we\u2019ve seen this story before. Johnson was a sixth-round rookie last year for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/lions\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Lions<\/a> who was a buzzy waiver-wire pickup when <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JohnKe06.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kerryon Johnson<\/a><\/strong> went down last year. Unfortunately he was a massive disappointment and he was waived by the Lions this year. He\u2019s not a special talent but does provide intriguing speed. He didn\u2019t get an invite to the combine but at Maryland\u2019s pro day, he logged a 40-yard dash time between 4.3 and 4.4 seconds which would have been the fastest of any running back in last year\u2019s class. There\u2019s always concern in rostering a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Jets<\/a> running back, especially a third string one, but if Johnson is going to see the majority of the snaps and another 20+ opportunities, he needs to be on the radar. The matchup against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_self\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> isn\u2019t anything special but it\u2019s not something to be feared either as they allow the eleventh-most PPR points to running backs so far this year. That was the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HintKe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kendall Hinton<\/a><\/strong> week in which they barely threw the ball. In every other game this season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PatrTi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tim Patrick<\/strong><\/a> has at least four targets. When removing that game, he has double-digit PPR points in four straight games and seven of his last eight dating back to Week 3. In that same span, he\u2019s averaging more than 16 PPR points, removing the \u201cHinton\u201d game. Patrick also has 3 100-yard games this year and five touchdowns on the season. This week\u2019s matchup against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_self\">Carolina Panthers<\/a> is a middle-of-the-road matchup. They\u2019ve been better against the pass than the run but it\u2019s not a matchup to shy away from. That wasn\u2019t the case last week. He only saw three targets and hauled in two of them for ten yards. Last week, however, was a week in which the matchup was more exploitable with the wide receivers. This week\u2019s matchup against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/nfl-teams\/bears\/\" target=\"_self\">Chicago Bears<\/a> is a bit different. The Bears do a nice job of limiting wide receivers and tend to give up a lot more production to tight ends. They currently allow the third-most PPR points to tight ends this season. As always, tight end specific defense can be a bit noisy, but in this case there could be something to it considering how they defend the wide receivers combined with the pass rush they get on quarterbacks. Akins should be able to capitalize if this is the case.
