{"id":9873,"date":"2017-01-06T12:29:42","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T17:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/?p=9873"},"modified":"2017-01-06T12:29:42","modified_gmt":"2017-01-06T17:29:42","slug":"9873","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2017\/01\/06\/9873\/","title":{"rendered":"San Francisco 49ers Head Coaching Candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The San Francisco 49ers finally ended the <strong>Chip Kelly<\/strong> experiment in San Francisco.\u00a0The 49ers finished a dismal 2-14 this season and had a historically bad defense.\u00a0Shaking up the organization further the 49ers also dismissed general manager <strong>Trent Baalke<\/strong>. Now, in a complete reboot, the 49ers are facing a series of crucial decisions.\u00a0The first of\u00a0which will likely be to find a head coach.\u00a0There seem to be a number of available head coaching prospects this year.\u00a0Below are some of San Francisco\u2019s most interesting possible candidates.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>San Francisco 49ers Head Coaching Candidates<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Josh McDaniels<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Josh McDaniels<\/strong> has to be one of the hottest NFL head coaching candidates.\u00a0His successes with the New England Patriots in multiple stints are well known.\u00a0McDaniels did have one brief head coaching try with the Denver Broncos from 2009-2010.\u00a0He left Denver with a disappointing 11-17 record, and spent one season with the St. Louis Rams before landing back in New England.<\/p>\n<p>As an offensive coordinator McDaniels\u00a0has won\u00a0four Super Bowls. The question is whether or not McDaniels&#8217; success is strictly tied to his mentor <strong>Bill Belichick<\/strong>.\u00a0One advantage McDaniels does have is that San Francisco is considering <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RiddLo20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Louis Riddick<\/a><\/strong> for the general manager\u00a0position.\u00a0Riddick has often spoken highly of McDaniels on ESPN and would surely want to link up with him if hired by the 49ers.\u00a0McDaniels was previously interviewed by the 49ers in 2010, but that was the year the team hired <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HarbJi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Harbaugh<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Anthony Lynn<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LynnAn00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Anthony Lynn<\/strong> <\/a>is another head coaching candidate that San Francisco has already shown interest in.\u00a0Lynn was interviewed by the team last season while he was still a running backs coach with the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0This past season Lynn was promoted to offensive coordinator once\u00a0<strong>Greg Roman<\/strong> was fired after Week two.\u00a0Lynn then served as interim coach for the Bills in the final week of the season after the firing of <strong>Rex Ryan<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2016\/12\/28\/bills-retain-anthony-lynn-head-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lynn comes from a good coaching tree<\/a> with names such as <strong>Bill Parcells<\/strong>, <strong>Mike Shanahan<\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DelxJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Del Rio<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If hired, Lynn will bring the 49ers back to a run-first style offense.\u00a0Lynn was a running back in the league behind <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DaviTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terrell Davis<\/a><\/strong> during his prime and won two Super Bowls.\u00a0He would be a great fit for San Francisco&#8217;s most potent offensive weapon, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HydeCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Hyde<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0There is also the possibility of Lynn improving the 49ers quarterback situation if hired.\u00a0Reports out of western New York are that Lynn could bring <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TaylTy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyrod Taylor<\/a><\/strong> with him if he were to leave Buffalo.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sean McVay<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Another coaching candidate who could potentially be linked to a quarterback is <strong>Sean McVay<\/strong>.\u00a0McVay maybe be able to lure <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CousKi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kirk Cousins<\/a><\/strong> to San Francisco if he were not able to agree to a contract with the Washington Redskins.\u00a0Cousins is at the very least an improvement over San Francisco\u2019s current situation.\u00a0McVay is considered by some experts to be something of a coaching prodigy.<\/p>\n<p>McVay is the grandson of former 49ers executive <strong>John McVay<\/strong>.\u00a0John McVay was in office with the 49ers during the successes they had with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WalsBi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Walsh<\/a><\/strong> in the 1980s.\u00a0There are questions though as to whether Sean McVay has the experience necessary to operate in a head coaching capacity.\u00a0Hopefully, the 49ers are not reaching backwards with this candidate.\u00a0There are no guarantees Sean McVay\u2019s lineage will bring future success.<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo<\/p>\n<div class=\"getty embed image\" style=\"background-color: #fff;
