Before the game, Taylor was going to get a pain-killing injection to help with his cracked ribs. Instead, the team doctor accidentally punctured Taylor’s lung.

More details on the Chargers’ team doctor accidentally puncturing his own quarterback Tyrod Taylor’s lung just before kickoff Sunday while trying to administer a pain-killing injection to the quarterback’s cracked ribs:https://t.co/IUPlMaJ65J

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 23, 2020

Tyrod Taylor’s Lung Accidentally Punctured by Team Doctor

It came as a surprise to everyone – including Anthony Lynn and Justin Herbert themselves – when it turned out just before kickoff that Taylor couldn’t play and that Herbert would have to start. As we already know, that game went pretty well despite losing in overtime.

However, there was a bit of mystery around what happened with Taylor. There were reports of “chest pains.” He was discharged from the hospital that evening and was considered week-to-week, but the team didn’t plan to put him on injured reserve.

Now there is more clarity as to what happened with the reveal that Tyrod Taylor’s lung was punctured, and this further puts question as to how long Taylor will be out. Herbert has been announced to start Week 3, and doctors have advised Taylor not play indefinitely.

The NFL Players Association will be investigating this incident.

Tyrod Taylor went into the season expected to be the temporary starter until Herbert was ready. The Chargers won in Week 1 with Taylor 16-13 over the Cincinnati Bengals. He was expected to be the starter in Week 2 again, but then this happened.

Taylor was the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills from 2015 to 2017, and in his final year there, was a part of the team that got to their first playoff berth since 1999. The Bills didn’t keep him that off-season, and he ended up with the Cleveland Browns. In a situation similar to the Chargers, he started for a few games before the rookie Baker Mayfield took the job.

Taylor so far in his career has 9,770 passing yards, 54 touchdowns to 20 interceptions, and 16 rushing touchdowns.

Main Photo:
Embed from Getty Images

It’s been revealed that the Chargers doctor accidentally punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung, after questions of just what happened to him.

[36,18
61,1501,40,570
post-95157","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-chargers","tag-football","tag-los-angeles-chargers","tag-nfl","tag-tyrod-taylor
["GET
