The defense and special teams of the <\/span>NFC East<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be the focus here. Without further ado, let\u2019s delve into who made the cut.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2020 NFC East All-Division Team: Defense\/Special Teams<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Defensive End: DeMarcus Lawrence,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cowboys<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/cowboys\/\" target=\"_self\">Dallas Cowboys<\/a> defensive end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LawrDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeMarcus Lawrence<\/a><\/strong> is coming off a down year after signing a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2019\/04\/05\/dallas-cowboys-demarcus-cousins-agree-to-massive-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$105 million contract extension<\/a> last off-season. While he had double-digit sacks in the two years prior, Lawrence only had five in 2019. Despite this, Lawrence&#8217;s talent still jumps out to those who watch, earning him a spot on this list. With the addition of the next member on the list, Lawrence should rebound in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Defensive End: Everson Griffen,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cowboys<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2020\/08\/12\/everson-griffen-signs-with-dallas-cowboys\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newly signed<\/a> Cowboys defensive end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrifEv99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Everson Griffen<\/a><\/strong> should form a fearsome tandem with Lawrence. Griffen\u2019s coming off a Pro Bowl year with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/vikings\/\" target=\"_self\">Minnesota Vikings<\/a>, where he was featured next to another star defensive end in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HuntDa01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Danielle Hunter<\/a><\/strong>. Now playing with America&#8217;s team, look for Griffen to &#8216;star&#8217; once again in the NFC East.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Defensive Tackle: Jonathan Allen,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Washington<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AlleJo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jonathan Allen<\/strong><\/a> is an emerging star for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/redskins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Football Team<\/a>. The former 2017 first-round pick is coming off a year with six sacks and seven tackles for loss. With the change from a 3-4 defensive end to a 4-3 defensive tackle under new Head Coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RiveRo20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Rivera<\/a><\/strong>, Allen should see more success in his natural position. Allen will be a part of a Washington defensive line that features four other first-round picks, including 2020 second overall selection <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/Y\/YounCh04.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chase Young<\/a><\/strong>. The nearby talent will take the pressure off Allen as he will not face constant double teams and can take advantage of one-on-one matchups.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Defensive Tackle: Fletcher Cox,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eagles<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outside of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/rams\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Rams<\/a> defensive tackle <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DonaAa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Donald<\/a><\/strong>, there might not be a better player at the position than <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/eagles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Eagle<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CoxxFl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fletcher Cox<\/a><\/strong>. While last year was not his best, with only 3.5 sacks, he still was a stalwart in the middle of the Eagles defense. In the NFC East, he stands above the rest at his position and is someone opposing teams in the division always gameplan around.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Outside Linebacker: Leighton Vander Esch,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cowboys<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since entering the NFL, Cowboys linebacker <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/V\/VandLe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leighton Vander Esch<\/a><\/strong> has been one of the best at his position. While only playing in nine games before injuring his neck, he collected 72 tackles keeping pace with his 140 tackles in his rookie year. With a healthy 2020, Vander Esch should retain his spot on this list.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Outside Linebacker: Cole Holcomb,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Washington<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HolcCo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cole Holcomb<\/strong><\/a> is the most underrated player on this list. After being drafted in the fifth round in 2019, the rookie amassed 105 tackles and three forced fumbles. Holcomb was a bright spot for a 3-13 Washington Football Team. Now under a new coach and in a new system, Holcomb should garner more attention for his talents.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Middle Linebacker: Jaylon Smith,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cowboys<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pro Bowl linebacker <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SmitJa05.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaylon Smith<\/a><\/strong> is coming off a 142 tackle season in 2019. Since recovering from a horrific collegiate injury, Smith has been consistently at the top of his position. His game thrives off his athleticism that allows him to fly around the field and make plays. An elite player in the division, look for Smith to remain on this list for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Cornerback: Darius Slay,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eagles<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New to the NFC East in 2020, Eagles cornerback <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SlayDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darius Slay<\/a><\/strong> has had his fair share of battles against the division&#8217;s best wideouts. In 2019, he allowed zero touchdowns in the games he played against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CoopAm00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amari Cooper<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McLaTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Terry McLaurin<\/strong><\/a> as a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/lions\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Lions<\/a>. Now, Slay will get to face them twice a year. Slay proved with the Lions that he is in the conversation for the best cornerback in the league and he&#8217;ll look to remain there with his new team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Cornerback: James Bradberry,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Giants<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James Bradberry<\/a> <\/strong>emerged as a potential shutdown corner in his final season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Panthers<\/a>. After signing <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2020\/03\/16\/james-bradberry-signs-new-york-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a lucrative contract<\/a> in free agency with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Giants<\/a>, Bradberry will look to build off a year where he grabbed three interceptions while only allowing one touchdown. Bradberry will look to prove his status as one of the league&#8217;s best with a new team in a new division.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Safety: Landon Collins,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Washington<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CollLa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Landon Collins<\/strong><\/a> has played his entire career in the NFC East. After leaving the Giants in free agency last year, he <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2019\/03\/11\/landon-collins-to-sign-massive-deal-with-redskins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed with Washington<\/a>, where he once again saw success. While Collins did not make as many game-changing plays for a Washington defense that struggled in totality, he did collect 117 tackles in just 15 games in a box safety role. With more turnovers in 2020, Collins can secure his spot as the division&#8217;s best safety once again.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Safety: Rodney McLeod,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eagles<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Longtime Eagles safety <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/McLeRo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rodney McLeod<\/a><\/strong> started all 16 games last year getting two interceptions and fumbles. McLeod often flies under the radar on the Eagles defense, but he always gets the job done. With the departure of his counterpart <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JenkMa99.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Malcolm Jenkins<\/a><\/strong>, McLeod is taking on a new leadership role in 2020 that should amount to more opportunities for him on the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Kicker: Jake Elliott,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eagles<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kicker <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/ElliJa03.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Elliott<\/a><\/strong> has been a model of consistency. He made 100% of his field goals inside of 40 yards and added two 50+ yard field goals in 2019. With the addition of a 64% touchback ratio on kickoffs, Jake Elliott is a reliable player for the Eagles and an All-Division kicker for this list.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Punter: Tress Way,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Washington<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington Football Team punter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WayxTr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tress Way<\/a><\/strong> earned his spot on this list after averaging 49.6 yards per punt in 2019. His longest punt of the season was 79 yards. While punters often fail to receive recognition, Way made the Pro Bowl last season making him the best punter in the division.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Returner: Steven Sims Jr.,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Washington<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One year after being an undrafted free agent signee for Washington, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SimsSt00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steven Sims Jr.<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0finds himself on the All-Division team as a returner. In Week 12, Sims Jr. had his best return taking a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.
