We are just two weeks away from the Thursday Night Football season opener between the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams2\/texans\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Texans<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams2\/chiefs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>. Week 1 provides an opportunity to take advantage of DFS prices that have been set without the benefit of preseason games. There are values hidden throughout the slate on both FanDuel and DraftKings.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s examine the quarterback position for the best Week 1 plays.<\/p>\n<h2>Week 1 Top DFS Plays<\/h2>\n<h3>Quarterbacks<\/h3>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RyanMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Ryan<\/a> ($7800 FD, $6700 DK):\u00a0<\/strong> The Atlanta game has the second-highest total projection on the Sunday main slate. Over his past 15 home games, Ryan has <em>averaged<\/em> 307.2 passing yards per game. In Week 1, Ryan gets a Seattle defense that ranked just 18th in DVOA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballoutsiders.com\/stats\/nfl\/team-defense\/2019\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">per FootballOutsiders.<\/a> The Seahawks ranked 24th last season with just 2.1 sacks per game. He is only the fifth-highest play on FanDuel and will finally play behind a completely healthy offensive line. Injuries have limited Atlanta&#8217;s offensive efficiency, ranking 26th and 25th the past two seasons in protection rate (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.playerprofiler.com\/nfl\/matt-ryan\/#!#current-year\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PlayerProfiler<\/a>).\u00a0 The Falcons offense has a bonanza of receiving weapons with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JoneJu02.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julio Jones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/R\/RidlCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calvin Ridley<\/a>,<\/strong> and newly acquired tight end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HursHa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hayden Hurst<\/a><\/strong>. Even <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WilsRu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Wilson<\/a><\/strong> himself has started to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/northwest\/seattle-seahawks\/seahawks-qb-russell-wilson-lets-treat-every-quarter-fourth-quarter\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">push the #LetRussCook narrative.<\/a> In their Week 1 matchup at Atlanta, the Seahawks will need to do that. In a likely shootout, Seattle should be able to carve up at Atlanta secondary that ranked just 25th-best against the pass last season. Both <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/L\/LockTy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Lockett<\/a> <\/strong>(4.40 40-Yard Dash) and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MetcDK00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">D.K. Metcalf<\/a><\/strong> (4.33 40-Yard Dash) will provide vertical weapons on the friendly indoor carpet of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Wilson can also attack Atlanta on the ground, where opposing quarterbacks tallied the second-most rushing touchdowns (five) against the Falcons. His price tag is higher than Ryan on both sites, but still a very safe value in a high-scoring NFC battle.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BridTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teddy Bridgewater<\/a> ($6800 FD, $5900 DK):\u00a0<\/strong> The comeback of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BridTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teddy Bridgewater<\/a><\/strong> from a gruesome knee injury is one of the true feel-good stories in the NFL. In Carolina, Bridgewater will get to lead an offense filled with explosive playmakers. The Panthers feature one of the fastest receiving cores in the league with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=MoorD.00,MoorDJ99&amp;search=D.J.+Moore&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">D.J. Moore<\/a> <\/strong>(4.42 40-Yard Dash), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SamuCu00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Curtis Samuel<\/a> <\/strong>(4.31), and newly-acquired <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AndeRo04.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robby Anderson<\/a> <\/strong>(4.41). Add super-athletic tight end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/ThomIa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ian Thomas<\/a><\/strong>, and the 27-year old Bridgewater has the best group of weapons in his career.<\/p>\n<p>He will open the season at home against a Raiders team that ranked 31st in defensive DVOA, with the second-fewest interceptions (nine) of any team in the NFL. The Raiders allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and the fourth-most passing touchdowns. Bridgewater&#8217;s price is affordable and allows for savings at the other positions while having a path to a high-end QB1 Week 1 performance. With a projected total of 47 points, Bridgewater is a great DFS value in an ideal situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WentCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Wentz<\/a> ($7700 FD, $6300 DK):\u00a0<\/strong>Death, taxes, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WentCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Wentz<\/a><\/strong>\/<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/P\/PedeDo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doug Pederson<\/a><\/strong> in Week 1.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Week 1 DFS thought:<\/p>\n<p>The Wentz-Pederson duo has been active for three Week 1 games from 2016-2019 <\/p>\n<p>Wentz Game 1 averages: <\/p>\n<p>66.1% Completion Percentage<br \/>299.3 Passing Yds<br \/>2.33 Passing TDs<br \/>0.33 INTs<br \/>24.7 FPPG<\/p>\n<p>WK1: Eagles at Wash (24th def. DVOA)<\/p>\n<p>Wentz 7.7K FD (QB7); 6.3 DK (QB8)<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; For The Numbers (@OldSchool0909) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OldSchool0909\/status\/1298338813362790407?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 25, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia has the best pair of tight ends in the league with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/ErtzZa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Ertz<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GoedDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Goedert<\/a><\/strong>. The recent injury to rookie <strong>Jalen Reagor<\/strong> will cause Wentz&#8217;s ownership to drop, and then there&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JackDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeSean Jackson<\/a><\/strong>. Since 2011, Jackson has averaged 8.4 targets, 5.5 receptions, 93.4 receiving yards, 0.75 touchdowns, and 19.3 PPR fantasy points per game. Add in an efficient receiving back in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SandMi01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miles Sanders<\/a><\/strong> (23 receptions last six games of 2019), and Wentz has a fantastic group of receiving weapons.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles face a Washington team that ranked 24th in pass defense DVOA. Wentz should find plenty of fantasy success against a division rival who allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing QBs and the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing TEs. Facing a weak divisional opponent in Week 1, Wentz is a strong DFS play.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=AlleJo02,AlleJo03,AlleJo00&amp;search=Josh+Allen&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Allen<\/a><\/strong> (<strong>$7900 FD, $6500 DK):\u00a0<\/strong>The third-year franchise QB for Buffalo draws a favorable home matchup against the Jets. Allen&#8217;s versatility allows for a safe floor and huge upside, as illustrated by over 1100 rushing yards his first two seasons combined. Allen was below-average against the Jets in the 2019 opener, finishing only as the QB18. But the addition of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/D\/DiggSt00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stefon Diggs<\/a>,<\/strong> veteran wideouts <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=BrowJo02,BrowJo22,BrowJo21&amp;search=John+Brown&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Brown<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BeasCo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cole Beasley<\/a><\/strong>, along with the backfield receiving duo of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SingDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devin Singletary<\/a> and rookie <strong>Zack Moss<\/strong> provide enough weapons to set up Allen for a great opening game. New York produced the second-best run defense last season, ensuring big-play opportunities for Allen. He&#8217;s slightly below the Top QB tier in Week 1, but still a very solid play.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=NewtCa00,NewtCa20&amp;search=Cam+Newton&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Newton<\/a> ($7300 FD, $6100 DK):\u00a0<\/strong>This may be the lowest DFS price we see for the former 2015 NFL MVP all season. Newton is only the 11th most expensive quarterback on both sites, and is playing in Foxboro against the worst defense in the NFL in 2019. The Dolphins allowed the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and the most passing touchdowns (39) with an additional three QB rushing scores.<\/p>\n<p>There are enough small concerns that Newton is not the top Week 1 play, including unfamiliarity with the Patriots offense, the coaching connection between Miami and New England, and a lack of proven receiving options.
