Thomas is just one year into a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2019\/03\/13\/earl-thomas-signs-ravens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">four-year(s)\/$55 million contract<\/a> after signing from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> as a free agent last off-season. His release comes following a number of incidences that the Ravens believed were detrimental to the team due to \u201cpersonal conduct that has adversely affected\u201d the team. Thomas was coming off a season in which he helped the Ravens finish as the league&#8217;s fourth-ranked total defense and third-ranked scoring defense. Following the Ravens 2019 Week 4 loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland Browns<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/earl-thomas-brandon-williams-have-heated-talk-after-loss-0ap3000001060585\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas got into an altercation<\/a> with long-time Raven defensive tackle <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WillBr02.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Williams<\/a><\/strong>. The argument stemmed from Williams being inactive for the loss that dropped the team to 2-2. Baltimore&#8217;s defense gave up the fourth-most yards (530) in team history that day and was dominated on the ground by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ChubNi00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Chubb<\/a><\/strong> and his 165 rushing yards. The only reason the altercation did not turn physical was that a number of teammates of the two stepped in the way.<\/p>\n<p>During the 2020 off-season, Thomas was then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/2020\/05\/07\/earl-thomas-wife-arrested-gun-brother-baltimore-ravens\/3088413001\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">involved in a domestic violence incident<\/a> in which he was listed as the victim. In the incident, it was reported that Thomas&#8217;s wife pointed a loaded gun to his head after coming to confront her husband about cheating.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas&#8217;s last strike for Baltimore came after a practice dispute with Ravens starting strong safety <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/ClarCh00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chuck Clark<\/a><\/strong>. The two got into a heated argument after Clark reportedly called out Thomas during a blown coverage. The outburst between the two escalated and saw Thomas sent home for the day. Thomas then released footage of the play on Instagram with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeffzrebiec\/status\/1297214993126100992\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his explanation of why the bout transpired<\/a>. The video was taken down shortly after.
