Keep in mind, this is not you or I or just any jock-turned-analyst. This is one of the best receivers to ever grace a football field at the pro level on one of the all-time best scoring offenses ever. Therefore, it\u2019s not really a question of <em>should<\/em> but <em>will<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/coaches\/McVaSe0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sean McVay<\/strong><\/a> consider Holt\u2019s advice?\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Should Sean McVay Heed the Advice of Torry Holt?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\">Directed at receivers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=WoodRo02,WoodRo21,WoodRo00&amp;search=Robert+Woods&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Woods<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KuppCo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cooper Kupp<\/a><\/strong> within the context of the live <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therams.com\/video\/ramscamp-virtual-tailgate\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rams Camp Virtual Tailgate<\/a> via Zoom video conferencing, Holt had this to say:\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;You got Robert Woods as a two-time thousand-yard, you know, receiver &#8211; back to back&#8230;A thousand-yard wide receiver in Cooper Kupp, right? <em>Van Jefferson<\/em> all of a sudden is now on the roster. What will a 4-receiver set look like in L.A.?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\">Kupp mentioned that the Rams &#8220;touched on that a little&#8221; in 2019, missing the point completely so Torry then quickly and excitedly added,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m saying with even more regularity&#8230;All of you can get open&#8230;That&#8217;s scary. Have you, [said] coach, [McVay] can you throw in a little bit more? I forgot to ask him!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\">To be clear, it&#8217;s more likely than not that Holt was not intentionally giving the Rams head coach any advice on play-calling. This doesn&#8217;t mean that Sean McVay shouldn&#8217;t accept Holt&#8217;s plea as such. Rookie running back <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2020\/04\/20\/cam-akers-2020-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cam Akers<\/strong><\/a> probably won\u2019t be mistaken for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FaulMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marshall Faulk<\/a><\/strong> anytime soon but adds a respectable amount of dual-threat ability just the same. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Open Sans, sans-serif;\">Those two additions being mentioned, Sean McVay and company know not all that lay before them game plan wise. Additionally, it will take a great deal of faith and confidence from the coaching staff to consistently trust that these new weapons can handle it. It was, in fact, just as much confidence in drafting what amounts to the extra tools needed to be successful enough to overcome a bad or mediocre offensive line, should that problem return. Expect improvement as the season lengthens.
